The latest travel agency to jump on the "no booking fees" marketing bandwagon is Travelocity.  Although Travelocity advertises "Fee Free, Worry Free Travel", did they really eliminate all service and airfare booking fees?

The Travelocity flight booking fees policy explained

With Travelocity, you still pay a booking fee on flights that are operated by multiple carriers.  It is common for travel agency websites, such as Travelocity, to book you on a round trip flight operated by more than one carrier, in that your departure flight is operated by United and your return flight is operated by Delta.   If that is the case, expect to pay Travelocity a booking fee.   You will also pay the Travelocity booking fee on flights that do not originate in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

How much is the Travelocity airfare booking fee?

  • $6.99 per ticket for multi-carrier flights
  • $10.99 per ticket for flights that originate outside of the United States, Mexico, Canada, or the Caribbean.

If these booking fees apply to you, they will be itemized on the booking screen.  Keep in mind that there are additional Travelocity service fees that you may be charged:

  • $25 fee for phone reservations
  • Variable processing fee for some hotel-only reservations
  • Up to $49.95 shipping fee for paper airline tickets, when e-tickets are not available
  • $100 to $200+ cancellation fee per ticket

On what flights did Travelocity eliminate their booking fees?

You do not pay Travelocity booking fees on all single-carrier flights (same airline) booked on Travelocity.com, as long as the flight originates in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean.   Travelocity's booking fee was previously up to $15 per flight.  Travelocity also does not charge a booking fee if you book a flight and hotel together as a package.
