Chevron's smug ads

PoP isn't diggng the smug ads from Chevron positioned throughout the city and cleverly blanketing bus stpos and Metro stations. He writes:

Allow me to call [redacted to appease Examiner.com rules] on this! Please. It’s like the tobacco companies saying they support cancer research…

I agree! I guess it's all Chevron has after the weak political pandering to DRILL BABY DRILL in America.  Oh, wait, there's a little work in the U.S. Well, then, huh. That's weird, Chevron.

Naturally I'm annoyed that a company that brags to its investors that it produces a record number of oil barrels and has a stronghold in the Middle East and Australia is going to tout how great it is commute. I feel like the are trying to dupe riders, many of which are living and driving in the suburbs. If Chevron thinks it's so great maybe they could pay for my commute?

Isn't "Human Energy" a little creepy? How many times did the Chevron people watch Soylent Green?

Did you know this about Chevron? Chevron has hired a “scientist” affiliated with a think tank dedicated to denying the threat of global warming while it spends tens of millions of dollars on a national advertising campaign to promote a "green" image.
The Chevron consultant, Douglas Southgate, is actually an “environmental economist” affiliated with a think tank called the Heartland Institute. Based in Chicago, Heartland promotes the idea that there is a "debate" about global warming despite the overwhelming scientific consensus that human activity is responsible for it. The Institute also creates research that downplays the dangers of secondhand smoke.
Southgate recently was quoted in news reports defending Chevron's practices in Ecuador, which included the dumping of more than 18 billion gallons of toxic waste into Amazon waterways and the abandonment of more than 900 waste pits gouged out of the jungle floor. The indigenous groups in Chevron’s former concession area have seen their populations decimated and ancestral lands plagued by the toxic contamination.

Michelle, I love that movie. I was worried there'd be crickets. We use Simple Green to clean the darkroom and no one "gets" my references. I'm as much to back as I can. :)
