New I-10, I-95 interchange opens Monday

New eastbound traffic movements should be in place by Monday, which includes opening a new flyover ramp from I-10 eastbound to I-95 northbound and a new exit at Forest Street for traffic from I-10 eastbound.
Florida DOT spokesman Mike Goldman said traffic on I-10 eastbound going to I-95 southbound will split from the left side of the roadway instead of the right, and there will be new lane designations for eastbound traffic from Roosevelt Boulevard (U.S. 17) going to I-95 northbound and southbound.
I-95 northbound within the project limits will be totally closed on Monday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-95 southbound within the project limits will be totally closed on Tuesday, July 27 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The ramp from I-10 eastbound to I-95 southbound will be totally closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. on Wednesday, July 28, and the ramp from Stockton Street to I-95 southbound will be totally closed on Wednesday between 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Detour signs will be posted.
The movement to I-95 northbound from Stockton Street is scheduled to reopen by July 26. Lane closings may occur at various locations within the project limits on I-10 and I-95 and on the side streets between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. The anticipated completion time for this project is late 2010 or early 2011.
In other First Coast road projects, drainage improvements on King Street, between U.S. 1 and Malaga Street, and new sidewalk on the north side of West Castillo Drive will be the topic of an open house scheduled for Wednesday, July 28.
The open house is scheduled between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the Lightner Building, also known as Alcazar Hotel, 75 King St., in downtown St. Augustine. The meeting will be held in the St. Augustine City Commission meeting room (Alcazar Room) on the first floor, West Wing.
FDOT staff will be available to go over the plans and answer questions or concerns about both projects. There will be no formal presentation so those interested are encouraged to drop by anytime during the open house.
Work on the West Castillo Drive sidewalk is scheduled to begin in mid-August and take approximately three weeks to complete. Periodic lane closures with flaggers directing traffic may be necessary at times during construction.
Drainage improvements on King Street will begin in late August or early September and will take approximately four months to complete. Traffic impacts will be necessary on King and Malaga streets and San Sebastian Drive during construction.
Elsewhere, S.R. 100 improvements were completed early, according to Florida DOT.
Cooperative weather resulted in the early completion of improvements to S.R. 100 in Bradford County.
The work began in December and included resurfacing and widening 11 miles of the road just east of Starke to the Clay County line. New drainage structures were installed along the roadway. In addition, five turn lanes were constructed at Southeast 57th Street, Southeast Third Avenue, Southeast 144th Street, Southeast 8th Avenue and at the entrance to Hope Christian Academy.
The paved pedestrian trail that runs parallel to the roadway was also extended half a mile to Southeast 57th Street.
Florida DOT credited for completing the tasks early. V.E. Whitehurst & Sons, Inc. of Williston “focused their crews and completed the $3.9 million project 24 percent ahead of schedule.”
