The new film It's Complicated ("Act II for middleaged divorcees") by Nancy Meyers is now officially out in many theaters around the country.
Meryl Streep, Steve, Martin, and Alec Baldwin star in this fun and brilliantly star-matched romantic comedy about an accomplished, gorgeous, successful woman in the bakery/food business (reminiscent of Julie & Julia) who's suddenly smitten -- or shall we say seduced? -- by her "ex" who happens to be the charming Alec Baldwin, father of their three young adult children.
The film is chock full of cliches and old "gags," but if you're in any kind of relationship transition, I'd say it's worth a viewing. The starring trio plus their back-up cast do a beautiful job of helping us take the whole idea of divorce, romantic relationships, and letting go of the past that no longer works, more playfully and light-heartedly. It is a very entertaining film, often funny, even downright hilarious at points.
Life is challenging enough in these days of great change, in relationships between men and women, too. It seems very important that we have opportunities to laugh long and hard about what we're having to move through. This film will surely help you take your relationship transitions and experimentations not quite so seriously. So often, we have to "try a relationship on" in order to see how it fits; and this extremely funny film helps us remember that -- and forgive ourselves for the detours, the "twists and turns" we might take along the way... It also creates a lovely ending -- with the blessing of rain and chocolate croissants to boot! For show times, see here.
