A woman attempting to use her boyfriend Daniel’s ski pass at Colorado’s Keystone Resort claimed that she was in the middle of a “sex change,” the Summit Daily News reports.
Resort officials apparently became suspicious when a woman presented a pass bearing a “male” name — Daniel. So she came up with a very novel excuse. When it became apparent that she was borrowing her boyfriend’s pass, she was arrested and booked on charges of theft of more than $500 and criminal impersonation.
I might take some heat for saying this, but I think this is hilarious. Trans people are so maligned and discriminated against, and a non-trans person claims that she is trans in order to save a few bucks on a ski trip? I have to hand it to her for thinking on her feet.
The only thing I question is why her name wasn’t printed in the paper. Is she a minor? Or did the article fail to print her name because of her “sex change” claim? The article also noted the case of a man who was arrested for attempting to use a “girl’s pass.” His name was not used, either.
Usually, the names of adults who break the law are publicly reported. Is the whole idea of gender mismatch and “sex change” so egregious that even people who break the law under those circumstances need to be protected? Just asking.
Nevertheless, I still find humor in the situation — especially since a person going through a legitimate transition would probably not use the term “sex change.” That would have tipped me off right away.
