The vistadome train from Machu Picchu to Ollantaytambo

View near Ollantaytambo (Sacred Valley) in Peru

The next series of Examiner.com entries will describe train travel experiences outside of the USA.

Several days later after viewing spectacular Machu Picchu our group again caught the noisey vistadome  train and as we passed through the Andes were awed by the hikers doing the Inca Trail.  Sadly, there are some areas along the river where trash (mainly plastic bottles) collects along the bank.

We were told the history of a big fire that ripped across the mountainside recently leaving a black scar.  Apparently, the area Shamen had prayed for rain. This eventually came and doused the fire.

Our own private contemplations were broken as traditional Andean music suddenly filled the train compartment.  A traditionally dressed, masked man walk down the aisle and the music swiftly changed to a fun, but distorted version of “San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair).”  The conductor and conductress then modeled alpaca wool items for sale in the railway store.  Truely a unique train trip and fashon show.
