Before packing the car and heading off to "Grandma's House" for Thanksgiving dinner make sure your car is ready.
You do not want to be several states away, have a mishap, and end up sitting on the side of the Interstate for a long time.
Here are some common tips and pieces of advice to make sure you have a safe trip:
* Check your tire's air pressure and make sure they are inflated to manufacturer's recommended pressure. This information can be found in the owner's manual or on a sticker on the inside of a door jamb. Also, you can check the tire sidewall.
* Check vital fluids especially the oil. Better yet if it has been a while since servicing, get the oil changed. Oil is a car's life blood.
* Make sure the window glass is clean especially on the inside. Hazing can be a problem at night with oncoming lights, especially if the humidity is high such as when it rains. Check the mirrors as well.
* Check your wipers and make sure they are in good shape, make sure your windshield washer fluid is filled.
* Do not overload the vehicle.
* Get plenty of rest, drowsy driving is as bad as drunk driving. If you get tired pull off into a rest stop and take a nap. Lives depend on it.
* Do not be aggressive, you get there when you get there.
* An emergency kit is a good thing to have just in case. Also some extra warm clothes and extra money is always a good idea.
Drive safely and have a Happy Thanksgiving.
