Bobby McKey's dueling piano bar is worth the trip

One thing that perhaps keeps people from giving Bobby McKey's a try is its location. Nestled in the middle of the new National Harbor development, a special trip is needed to stop by. People cannot simply visit the dueling piano bar while going around town. National Harbor essentially sprang up out of nowhere and is not near public transportation so if you're going to be in the area it is specifically because you were out on a mission to do so.

Well proximity to National Harbor should not stop anyone from visiting Bobby McKey's. It is the only dueling piano bar in the D.C. area so it behooves you to make an evening out of your visit.

Bobby McKey's has two general areas, the biggest being a seated main floor where reservations are highly recommended. This is the only area with tables and chairs. Behind this main floor is a bar area that is essentially first-come, first-served stading room only. There are some stools that line the railing the separates the bar from the main floor but if someone is planning on catching the show from the bar they should plan on standing the entire time. If Bobby McKey's get busy enough, a second-level bar will open to serve the overflow crowd.

The menu is a bit limited and is slightly on the pricey side, but the portions are the right size and the food selection is suitable enough.

As for the musical part of the evening, you're in for a good time. There is no charge to request a song from one of the two performers, but of course a tip does help the changes of your song being chosen. Part of the appeal of Bobby McKey's is not knowing which songs will get played. Certainly there will be some of the standards from the likes of Billy Joel and Elton John, but be preapred for a few surprises. "Rocky Top" and "Pants On The Ground" were two of the unique selections played during a recent visit.

All in all, Bobby McKey's in a fantastic way to spend an evening, or maybe just an hour or two before or after going to dinner at a nearby restaurant. The only shame in all of this is that Bobby McKey's isn't closer in to downtown D.C., Northern Virginia, or Bethesda where many more people could easily enjoy the fun.
