Time to man up and admit it, it’s the year of the woman
- I was certain Danica Patrick was going to win the Indianapolis 500 Sunday. Just positive. After all, this 2008 is a year, when, surely, women have been more prominent in sports than ever before — and in every way: good, bad and sad.
Why is the national anthem still played at games?
- The Sports Curmudgeon’s bile has been rising at the general level of tackiness he has witnessed in sports, and so he has requested time to vent.

- Most of you never heard of Ralph Beard, or if you did, had forgotten him by the time he died a few weeks ago just short of 80. But back in the 1940s, Beard was a terrific All-American, who led Kentucky to two national basketball championships and the United States to a gold medal in the 1948 Olympics. He already was a first-team NBA All-Star when it was revealed he had taken money from gamblers to shave points in games at Kentucky.

- With the new year mercifully beckoning, the world of competitive sports should resolve to take a dip in boiling water with a bar of soap and a wire brush — then give itself a nice scrubbing.
Frantz: If A’s are smart, they will not sign Bonds
- The following urgent plea goes out to Billy Beane, Michael Crowley and Lew Wolff of the A’s: Don’t do it. Don’t even think about doing it. If you start to feel tempted to do it, go outside and slam your hand in the car door five or six times until you come to your senses. When you see him or his agent approaching, don’t just walk in the other direction. Run. Do whatever you must, but find a way to stop yourself. Do not offer a contract to Barry Lamar Bonds. And before you start to argue with me, stop. I already know what you’re thinking:
