TOMS RIVER, N.J. – Comedian, actor and radio personality Artie Lange was arrested Friday afternoon for driving under the influence of an intoxicant and careless driving, after Lange was involved in a minor traffic accident in central New Jersey.
Toms River police say Lange’s 2009 Nissan struck the rear of another vehicle around 1:30pm.No one was injured in the collision and the damage to both vehicles were minimal.
Police said the responding officer’s observance of the 41-year-old, comedian after the accident led to Lange’s arrest and DUI charge.
Lange was taken to police headquarters where he was processed and issued summonses and released pending a municipal court appearance on July 16th.
No further information was available about the comedian’s blood alcohol level or if he had retained an attorney.
Lange a regular team member of the “Howard Stern Show” has often confessed on the air about his on-going struggle with substance abuse.
