Philip Markoff, the 22-year-old man authorities arrested Monday in connection with the murder of Julissa Brisman at a Boston hotel last week, was a second-year medical student at Boston University and is engaged to be married in August to a young woman he met volunteering at a hospital emergency room.

The wedding website of the young couple presents a story of two lovers connected by an interest in saving lives, according to True Crime Report:

"We both started volunteering at the hospital on September 19, 2005. We volunteered at the Emergency Room together and spent about 2 months pushing stretchers down hallways and bringing blood and urine samples to pathology together before our first date on November 11, 2005!!"

Brisman, the 26-year-old victim, worked as a call girl for a New York madam before she began offering erotic massages through Craigslist in Boston, according to the New York Daily News.

"She was a good kid, but kind of a nightmare," the madam, Kristin Davis, told the tabloid newspaper. "She had a bad drinking problem. We rescued her a couple of times from a bar where she hung out when she was supposed to be working."

"I kept giving her second chances," the madam added. "She'd come back and promise she was sober."

Davis said Brisman "did not do escorting," although she did offer services as an erotic masseuse.

Brisman was reportedly shot in the abdomen as she struggled during a botched robbery at the Marriott Copley Place hotel last Tuesday.

Markoff, a 6-foot-tall, clean-cut blond, was captured on video as he walked through the hotel lobby on the night of the murder.

Markoff is also suspected of involvement with a similar botched robbery of an exotic dancer at gunpoint in a Rhode Island hotel Thursday night.

In that attack, the 26-year-old victim was saved when her husband burst into her room at the Holiday Inn Express and the man fled.

Police in Worcester arrested 50 people in a prostitution sting set up through Craigslist, the massive free classifieds website that is often used by prostitutes, swingers and other seekers of romance, sex and everything under the sun.
