Governor Chris Christie recently sent a request to the states largest university, Rutgers, requesting the facility to become exclusive to the state’s medical marijuana corp. Christie suggested University grow the substance and be distributed by the state’s teaching hospitals. Even though the state legislature has approved a plan allowing patients with specific chronic illnesses to access the drug, Rutgers has denied his request stating, marijuana is still an illegal drug and would jeopardize millions of dollars in federal funding to the school.

The new law has not yet been implemented and has been delayed until January so state health officials can work out all the details.

That was a good delay tactic. Another 6 weeks of suffering. I feel like Christie is trying to emulate Dick Daley. They both Ignore laws they disagree with regardless of the suffering of their constituents.

Christie is slowly taking away a great law for people in need.

Good, now that Rutgers said no, make it how it should've been in the first place and allow the individuals to grow their own or get it from a collective/dispensary.

Also, don't they realize centralizing a grow to one location for the entire state has so many drawbacks? If their is one error the crop could be compromised, you're putting too much responsibility on one area when it could be perfectly fine for hundreds of small time growers to grow for specific regions. More growers growing on a smaller scale means a larger variety of strains that can have different genetics, each tailoring to a specific ailment. It's just nonsense in NJ right now, and people are suffering as a result.

Its going to cost to much money for them to grow the marijuana , Its not cheep or easy to grow medical grade marijuana. They will end up using more tax money to make it work (that would suck) They should let people with medical cards grow for them self plus have a few privet growers who get taxed supply the dispensaries. Come on GOV!! its good for the sick and the economy.. why is it that the right side seems to always be the bad guys? maybe its because they are right now!!!

Wow, the comment section looks like 10-1 FOR medical marijuana. I see only one comment where some brainless someone wants medical marijuana users in prison...like that makes sense. I bet brainless chris would pitch a fit if someone got between him and his doctor. Yet, he has no problems putting himself between you and your doctor. I guess he's just another fascists at heart.

    Dear Brainless Chris,
Do you even know what constitutes an illegal drug? Do you realize that our government has classified Marijuana as one of the most dangerous and addictive drugs with no medicinal value, yet holds a patent on it's use for medicinal purposes as an antioxidant and neuroblocker? Do you also know that the federal government, according to their drug classifications, sees Cocaine as less harmful than Marijuana? I'm assuming you don't. I'm also assuming you are in perfect health and not in need of this medicine. I hope, for your sake, that you always stay that way, or one day you may find yourself on the "wrong" side of the law. Your name says it all. Eat your words you uninformed twit.

Rutgers was a delay tactic all along. Remember how Reagan was SO against stem cell research until Dear Old Ronnie got Alzheimers? Then his wife and kids were all for it. If Christie needed pain mgt, this would all be a done deal. Hope you all in Trenton are enjoying your pain free days and nights while New Jerseyians suffer. May your loved ones never get MS, glaucoma, paralysis or a neuro disease.
