Tom Brady named AFC Offensive Player of the Month

For the third time of his career, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Month for October 2009.  The future hall of famer previously was selected for the honor in September and October of 2007.

The award comes off a spectacular month in which Brady led the Patriots to big wins over the Tennessee Titans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  While falling to former Patriots quarterbacks coach an offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels when visiting the Denver Broncos, Brady also turned out a win over the Baltimore Ravens to open the month.

In the four meetings, Brady tallied 1,161 passing yards for 12 touchdowns.  His 92 of 131 passes completed earned him a 121.7 passer rating for the month as well.

While some critics claim Brady has lost his touch, especially after throwing two picks in the Buccaneers game last Sunday in London, others are comparing his performance this season to that of 2007, when he led the team to a perfect 16-0 season.

Brady and the Patriots have this Sunday off for their bye week, giving them ample time to rest from the international trip and gather themselves before starting the second half of the season.  On tap are the Miami Dolphins on November 8, 2009, which should be an interesting match-up.  Brady, the University of Michigan graduate will face a fellow former Wolverines quarterback Chad Henne as they take the field at Gillette Stadium.
