As the Toledo Walleye take the ice this evening at Wings Stadium to face the undefeated Kalamazoo Wings, they will also face an unusual color to the generally white ice surface. In honor of Halloween, the ice has been painted orange as Kalamazoo hosts the Sixth Annual Orange Ice Game.
While the orange ice is one thing the players will need to look out for, the Wings are sure to provide a challenge as well. Beginning the season with a perfect 6-0 record, the Wings look to continue their winning streak with a victory tonight.
One thing in favor of the Walleye is that the Wings are returning from a road trip to West Virginia, with the busses arriving in Kalamazoo early this morning. Toledo also played on the road in their last game, falling to the Reading Royals in an overtime shoot-out, but should be ready as they had Friday off to rest.
Following tonight's Halloween game, the Walleye will return home and prepare for School Celebration Day at the Lucas County Arena on Wednesday. With a special start time of 10:30 a.m. the Walleye host the Kalamazoo Wings as well as students and staff from local schools.
