The Rockford IceHogs, an AHL affiliate of the Toledo Walleye, announced that defenseman Jonathan Carlsson has been assigned to Toledo. Chicago Blackhawks General Manager of Minor League Affiliations Mark Bernard made the announcement earlier today.
Carlsson made his AHL debut with Rockford last month, playing in six games and recording six penalty minutes. He was originally drafted by the Blackhawks in 2008.
He began his career in his native Sweden, playing for Brynas IF Gavle in the Swedish Elite League. Carlsson saw increased action in the 2008-2009 season, appearing in 55 regular season games and recording a career-best 78 penalty minutes.
Carlsson also has experience playing internationally for Sweden, including scoring a goal in the championship game as Sweden took home the silver medal in the 2008 World Junior Championships.
The Walleye are back home this week as they host the Kalamazoo Wings at the Lucas County Arena tomorrow. The Wings are surely looking to settle the score after earning their first loss of the season courtesy of the Walleye Saturday night. The game has a special start time of 10:30 a.m. as the Walleye hosts School Celebration Day.
