The Toledo Walleye's very own JC Sawyer was named captain of the American Conference squad for the ECHL All-Star Game, the league announced today. Sawyer, along with Toledo center Maxime Tanguay will travel to Ontario, California, for the January 20, 2010, game.

David Walker of the Ontario Reign was also named captain of the National Conference team. Serving alongside Sawyer as alternate captains is Ben Gordon of the Reading Royals and Zach Tarkir of the South Carolina Stingrays. Ryan Kinasewich of the Utah Grizzlies and Shawn Weller of the Bakersfield Condors will also be alternate captains of the National Conference team.

Along with the festivities surrounding the event, 14-year-old singer-songwriter Jessarae will perform before the game, singing the national anthems for the United States and Canada. Jessarae is also the son of Luc Robitaille, Hockey Hall of Fame member and current President of Business Operations for the Los Angeles Kings.

Toledo-area fans can watch the game live on BCSN, listen to the action on Fox Sports Radio 1230-WCWA or watch online using the B2 Networks.

In unrelated news, the Reading Royals announced this afternoon that they have signed former Toledo forward Bryan Ewing to a contract. Ewing was recalled from the Walleye by the Rockford IceHogs on Tuesday. He was released from the IceHogs in what was called a mutual decision, allowing him to seek other options. During his time in Toledo, Ewing notched 21 points in 26 games.
