Their six-game winning streak came to an end this evening as the Toledo Walleye fell 7-2 to the Elmira Jackals at the Lucas County Arena. Toledo remains in first place in the American North, however both the Kalamazoo Wings and Cincinnati Cyclones remain just one point behind.

Elmira struck early, taking the lead just before the five-minute mark in the first period. High-scoring forward Tyler Donati sent a centering pass to Keegan Dansereau to beat Walleye netminder Alec Richards on the glove side.

In nearly the same play once again, the Jackals notched another goal on the power play just a few minutes later. Mat Robinson sent the puck up to Olivier Proulux for his 13th goal of the season.

Elmira was far from done scoring, tallying an additional two goals in the first period. Jarrett Konkle outskated the Walleye defensemen for the third goal of the evening, while the fourth came off a pass from Brendan Connolly to Michael Busto to beat Richards in the five hole.

The Walleye saw some success just before the first intermission as Scooter Smith grabbed a rebound off a shot from defenseman Justin Suda to get the puck past Elmira goaltender Julian Ellis.

While the second period didn't see nearly as much scoring as the first, the Jackals brought their lead back up to four near the midpoint of the game as Tyler Donati weaved through traffic for his 16th goal of the year.

Both penalty boxes were busy late in the game as fans enjoyed a number of fights. Luis Tremblay was involved in a exciting brawl with Brett Gallant, sending Tremblay to the box on a fighting major and Gallant to the locker room on a game misconduct.

Elmira struck again at 7:44 in the third when Bear Trapp sent a pass from behind the net to Brennan Turner for the goal. Walleye goaltender Alec Richards was visibly upset, slamming his blocker to the ice.

Richards' evening only got worse moments later as Tyler Donati netted yet another goal, sending Richards to the bench in favor of recently returned goaltender Jordan Pearce.

After Guillaume Lepine was called for a hooking penalty with just over 10 minutes to play, the Walleye were able to score on the power play, with Chris Robertson passing the puck backwards to Mark Nebus to bring the game to 7-2. Nebus celebrated by dropping the gloves with Brennan Turner, scrapping in a lengthy fight at center ice.

The Walleye hope to "erase it tomorrow" as head coach Nick Vitucci put it after the game when they host the Jackals once again at the Lucas County Arena. Puck drops at 7:00 p.m. when Toledo celebrates prom night with special tuxedo jerseys.
