GARDASIL® is a cervical cancer vaccine for girls and young women ages nine to 26 manufactured by Merck & Co. GARDASIL® helps protect against four types of human papillomavirus (HPV). Two types cause 70% of cervical cancer cases, while two more types cause 90% of genital warts. The full regimen requires three doses, given over six months.
As of June 1, 2009, more than 25 million doses of GARDASIL® were distributed in the United States. Up to that same date, there were 14,072 reports of adverse events following vaccination, according to a recent Center for Disease Control (CDC) report. Ninety-three percent of the reports were considered non-serious, while the other 7 percent were considered serious. (See explanation below) Assuming all distributed doses were given to patients, those numbers work out to approximately 15 non-serious and one serious adverse event per 10,000 patients.
Serious events included Guillian-Barré Syndrome (GBS) and blood clots. There have also been 43 reports of women dying after receiving the vaccine, according to the CDC. Twenty-six of the deaths have been confirmed, but no link to GARDASIL® has been established.
The information was compiled through the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), a public health system that helps the CDC and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) track possible adverse side effects of vaccines.
The most common negative reaction to the vaccine is headache, according to a press release posted on Merck’s Web site. Other side effects include:
• Pain, swelling, itching and bruising at the injection site
• Nausea
• Fever
• Vomiting
• Fainting
Company guidelines warn women who are pregnant or who are severely allergic to yeast not to receive the vaccine.
“There are quite a few reports of fainting and dizziness after receiving the vaccine,” according to Dr. Reg Finger, an independent medical researcher. “The FDA has changed its label to warn clinicians to watch out for the possibility of fainting, to prevent falls. The few reports of serious adverse events have been investigated and found to have no particular pattern, and no evidence that the vaccine was actually implicated.”
Dr. Finger recommends the vaccine for young women and teen girls.
“Though it is for a sexually transmitted disease, you never really know when a sexual assault might happen to your daughter, especially after she leaves home. Nor whether she might marry someone with a history (of HPV infection.)”
• A non-serious event involves pain and swelling at the injection site, nausea, fever, headache and fainting.
• A serious event involves hospitalization, permanent disability, life-threatening illness and death.

My 13 year old daughter was injured by Gardasil and completely disabled for the past year. Merck got it right when they used the slogan "One Less" for Gardasil. Because of Gardasil, my daughter was "One Less". She was "One Less Student", "One Less Active Child", "One Less in every aspect of her life". Take it from a mother who has spent the past year sitting by my child's bedside wondering if she would die in her sleep. INVESTIGATE BEFORE YOU VACCINATE. DO NOT trust your doctor to make this decision. If you want to understand Merck's role in the medical community, investigate some of their former wonderdrugs such as VIOXX and then marvel at how many people died from it before it was pulled off the market. The CDC AND FDA need to do their job and get this off the market before more children are harmed. The public is not aware of VAERS and the #'s are grossly understated. Thanks for this article. What I find highly amusing is that according to VAERS “A non-serious event involves pain and swelling at the injection site, nausea, fever, headache and fainting.”
My daughter is listed in VAERS as disabled. She was unable to attend school almost the entire last year due to this disability. She had nausea and pain SO SEVERE that she could not even function.
It sounds like VAERS needs to be communicating with the parents of these children so that they can relook at their non-serious definition. I think if something takes a child out of school for almost a year, cost tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills, etc. It is pretty serious!
By the way, my daughter is currently being treated at 2 major university hospitals, Wake Forest Baptist and Duke’s Children’s Hospital for these “Non Serious but disabling symptoms.” DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOUR CHILD!
My daughter has been ill since her gardasil vaccination. Fainting all the time migraine headaches with temporary paralysis which last for hours. Brain fog, bloody stools low blood pressure. Sleep apnea. She has been so sick and tired. The poor kid had not had a menstrual since her vaccinations. This shot has totally destroyed her. Nice. She is a non-serious side effect. But she is disabled. Merck doesn't care, the FDA turns a blind eye. They are just little girls. They are mass sterilizing and crippling our young girls. Just a non-serious side effect.
The reason the side effects are only for the site of injection is because that is all they reported or even observed in their "clinical testing" the patients were observed for a max. of 5 days and they only observed the site of injection- the placebo group had 300 people on saline and then 3,000+ on the aluminum base ( a poison right there, as in many vaccines, thus the Autism) and then the Gardasil group which had the aluminum base and the polysorbate which is proven to be a bad one too (google its side effects)but if they only report the area of injection- then it is a dud test and it is. But it doesn't matter cause FDA knew it had a dud placebo group-all 3,000+ had to have had the PURE saline not any of the vaccine products, like the aluminum. and so they have no facts from the "test" because they didn't observe anything and they didn't do it for any length of time. SO they don't know how long it lasts or anything-go to cogforlife

Beth- how can 26 deaths be confirmed and no links established- I mean the first part means 0, so people should start asking what that means. And the second is a blatant -let's copy CDC, FDA and Merck and spread their lies- sorry but they are lying-
CLOTS cause heart attacks and strokes- well the girls died of heart attacks- that is a causation from Gardasil if it causes clots. But they keep "saying" there is no causation- we need to start saying there is a correlation here- clots=heart attacks- and not repeat their "we are not responsible" theory- it is a lie- plain and simple- how can 42 girls all young athletes with no prior history drop dead after the vaccine and there is NO correlation?? One man dies from Vioxx from a heart attack and there is a multi-state settlement program to reimburse the injured parties but 42 young girls who are the furthest from EVER having a heart attack at 11-18 yrs. of age and the product produces clots- they themselves say this and NOTHING forthefamily
My 17 year old daughter was injured by Gardasil. She received her first- and only- vaccine on 4/23/09 and on 4/24/09 she woke with symptoms. Initially they were mild but the longer the vaccine worked on her immune system the sicker she became. At first her symptoms were dizziness, abdominal pain and slight headache. The symptoms continued to increase. She was now experiencing extreme fatigue, episodes of muscle weakness so severe that her legs would completely give out and she would collapse. At times she required I support her to walk! She was having squeezing headaches, numbness and tingling to her feet, pain to her right arm. She was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy by her Neurologist who stated that it was a direct result of the Gardasil vaccine!
And all we were told before getting the vaccine was that there was a possibility of pain and redness at the injection site or possible fainting! I wish I had been given the true side effects in order to make an informed decisio
Hi, I'm writing from New Zealand where I looked into Gardasil for our daughter. What I uncovered shocked me into setting up a website www.offtheradar.co.nz for other parents and girls to access information which is not being given out by health officials. Dr Diane Harper who headed the clinical trials for Gardasil asked our government not to proceed with the vaccine programme due to her many concerns. These being safety issues, false advertising i.e. that Gardasil prevents cervical cancer. This Dr Harper says has yet to be proven. Vaccinating 11-12 year old girls is of great concern to her due to inadequate testing. Dr Harper has stated the Gardasil vaccine is "one great big public experiment". My 12 year old daughter just recieved the shot a month ago. Her step-mother and I both researched the shot ahead of time and decieded to get it. Both sides of the family have a history of cysts and cancer so we felt the goods out weighed the bads. My daughter was sore for a day or two where the shot was given other than that no side effects so one for the good!
i have had the gardasil and besides from my arms being sore for a day or two, i have had no other symptoms. i have not been dizzy or anything.
