Hoops and fabric equal art

Quilt and embroidery hoops and your favorite fabric make art.

Simply framing fabric in a quilt or embroidery hoop creates inexpensive, colorful art. Use sewing project leftover scraps of fabric or quilting fat quarters, or purchase fabric pieces at a thrift store. Wood or metal hoops can be purchased for as little as a dollar in any craft store or less at a thrift store or garage sale. Paint hoops to pop against or blend in with your wall color or the fabric.

The fabric can be changed out by season, or when you get bored, or your taste changes, or when you fall in love with a new fabric.

Fabric hoop art can be hung on the wall alone or along with family photos and other artwork, or on a piece of furniture leaning against the wall.

Other framing ideas:

  • Quilt pieces. Check thrift and antique stores, and rummage and garage sales for orphan quilt pieces, or battered quilts that have sections to salvage.
  • Child's favorite t-shirt. Any favorite piece of clothing that holds special memories.
  • Wrapping paper. Use leftover paper or buy a sheet of decorative paper.
  • Lace pillow cases, and table cloths and runners. Showcase and preserve a family heirloom.
