Supreme Court nominee may be a racist and a legal intellectual lightweight

New Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor may be in for a tougher battle than White House wanted. Beginning salvo included comments such as intellectual lightweight, racist, school marm, judicial activist. Sotomayor is being quoted from a speech delivered to University of California Berkley law school, where she said, “I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”

I wonder if a white man had said something similar to that if he would even still be considered for this critical position. Actually I know the answer…NO! Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich was quoted on his web site. “New racism is no better than old racism.”

According to Joe Kovacs world net daily: “ Sotomayor is a member of the group La Raza a group that's promoted driver's licenses for illegal aliens, amnesty programs, and no immigration law enforcement by local and state police.”

The group also supports the Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan – which sees "the Race" as part of an ethnic group that one day will reclaim Aztlan, the mythical birthplace of the Aztecs. In Chicano folklore, Aztlan includes California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and parts of Colorado and Texas.

The White House won’t commit directly on the quote and only say that it is taken out context. I guess avoiding the statement or changing the subject to her background would mean the white house passively endorses the quote.

In fact the Obama administration was confident they would not need outside help with Sotomeyer. The first 24hours after their announcement they changed their minds and hired Ricki Seidman, who helped run Bill Clinton’s Supreme Court nominees campaign Ruth Bader Ginsberg and Stephen Breyer.

They are going to need the help Groups opposed to include Concerned Women for America, a group that opposes gay marriage and abortion, has started a campaign to stop Sotomayor nomination. Christian groups like CBN, ACLJ and others.

The American Center for Law and Justice a legal Christian activist group that often opposes ACLU said one of Sotomayor’s comments stated ‘court of appeals is where policy is made.’ They said “on its face, it’s troubling.” I agree. This comment indicates a Judicial Activism instead of interpreting the Law she makes policy something we elect representatives for.

Is Sotomayor smart enough for the job? Jeffery Rosen wrote in the new republic that: “The most consistent concern was that Sotomayor, although an able lawyer, was ‘not that smart and kind of a bully on the bench,’ as one former 2nd Circuit clerk for another judge put it,” Rosen wrote.

Karl Rove said on Greta about Sotomayor circulate opinions: “What she would do is she would mark them up like she was your English school teacher and — with your typos and misspellings and other words that she wanted to have changed and send it back to her colleagues. Not exactly the best way to ingratiate yourself with your colleagues. Rather than say, “Oh, I thought you had an interesting legal argument here and I’d like to talk to you more about this here,” she was acting like sort of a schoolmarm.”

Wendy Long, counsel to the Judicial Confirmation network, called Sotomayor on Tuesday “a liberal judicial activist of the first order who thinks her own personal political agenda is more important [than] the law as written,” a charge that appeared in the lead story of the following day’s New York Times.

White house had to counter with biased but distinguished legal experts to rebut charges that Sonia Sotomayor, President Obama’s Supreme Court pick, is an intellectual lightweight who puts her political views ahead of the law.

Martha Minow, a professor at Harvard Law School and onetime classmate of Sotomayor, said that she teaches Sotomayor’s opinions at Harvard and that her body of work “shows a great deal of craft.” Minow also called Sotomayor a judge who takes a “careful adjudicatory approach.”

Sotomayor is a passive racist with ties to radical racist organizations. The nominee is intellectual lightweight and is not capable of the highest court in the land. The nominee has had six rulings go to the Supreme Court and five have been overturned. That is a legal intellectual lightweight The court needs color blind jurist, not a jurist who is far from it.

“I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”

That is a full-blown racist comment and this woman shouldn't have ever been considered to sit on the highest court in the land. Her past rulings are questionable at best due to her penchant for using race to determine guilt or innocence. It's crystal clear that she doesn't see the need to obey what is written in the U.S. Constitution but, instead, makes up her own rules based on the race of the defendant in the courtroom. She needs to take some serious lessons from one of our most honorable Supreme Court Justices - Clarence Thomas.

    Great article, Bill.

Tom your brain is as large as your tiny thumbnail. But only half a cell lights up.

La Raza to most people is one of the most racist groups in the U.S.
And Sotomayor is stupid enough to join that group. What an idiot!
And idiot Obama names this idiot to this important position?
    The blind leading the blind.

MAY BE A RACIST!!!!!????? How come it's alwasy so damn clear that a white guy is a racist when every little comment he utters is monitored, yet this woman just comes right out and says it and it's, MAY BE A RACIST!! The double standard the Democrats have set-up is shear hypocricy.

Great article Bill. We can only hope that the people out the that advocate the true ending to racism and racial bias will understand that this nomination can't stand.

It appears that our current administration is setting a tone of qualification based upon race.

There is no doubt that Sotomayer has proven her racial bias by her statements and that her confirmation would only deepen the resentment and mistrust between races placing more walls between us.
