The Dream Act is a proposed federal legislation that was introduced in the US Senate and the US House of Representatives in March 26, 2009. The bill would provide illegal immigrant students, who graduated from an American High School, are of good moral character, arrived in the US as children, and have been the country continuously for at least five years prior to the bill’s enactment, the opportunity to earn conditional permanent residency. In fact La Raza promotes this bill on their web site saying:
“The DREAM ACT and the American Dream Act would address the challenges by restoring state rights to determine residency for in-state tuition and establish a path to obtaining legal status for immigrant youth.”
Other words this is back door way to gain Amnesty.
In a time of recession to promote this bill is pure arrogance. In Colorado there is a bill similar to the dream act which will cost the taxpayers an estimated 200 million dollars a year. Nationwide the combined cost would astronomical. Tell me why an illegal immigrant should get in state tuition when a legal student from out of state cannot? Or maybe a military dependant who is in a state with her military husband wants to go to school she has to pay out of state tuition, yet an illegal immigrant does not. This bill is unfair, expensive and allows those illegal’s to get status then be eligible to bring in all their relatives after citizenship, thus bringing in an estimated 200 additional people per person.
This bill does not help our citizens to get a College Degree it gives special status to illegal immigrants. We need to help our own people instead of some other countries unwanted or unable. When will our elected leadership look after its own contingents for a change?
Congressman Jared Polis-D of Colorado is a co-sponsor for this poor excuse of a bill.

Now you have your information right about in state and out of sate students but i can tell your only looking at this from one prospective.Take into mind that this bill goes to students who are in college and have been in this country for years, weather they were brought here at a young age by their parents and know nothing about their birth land or came here to better their education. The fact is their here and the more you ignore it the worse it will become. You have the greedy mind set of a few Americans who feel that immigrants will take every thing you have and worked for. I ask you this question your great great or so on father or mother were they originally here before it became America? Or did they enter this great country looking for something better for their family....you the fruits of their labor can say such things. Using the recession to say it is not time for this to be brought is the typical thought involved with those who want this to go away. When will it ever be the right time to do whats just and reward those who sought to better themselves through education, instead of committing crimes and wasting tax payers money. They then would too become tax payers and add to the American finical system if this bill passes.
Alex I don't mind your criticism but if your going to to criticize at least say why this is "un-intelligent" opinion. We are still a free country so I will not "shut up".
http://americasvoiceonline.org/blog/entry/breaking_dream_act_would_slash...
legislation would increase revenues by $2.3 billion in the 2011-2020 period. After accounting for spending:
CBO and JCT estimate that enacting the bill would reduce deficits by about $1.4 billion over the 2011-2020 period.

I said un-intelligent for the same reasons Malcom just pointed out. Please have some sympathy and look at the situation from more than one prospective. It wasn't their choice to come here, and they came for a better future. In case you haven't noticed, it's not our choice what country we are born into.
200 per person? get ur facts straight before u post things like this. and we are the people of this country and thats why this issue should be acknalodge
Thank you Malcolm for commenting please comment again you present yourself well. You make a good point when you asked when will this bill the right time. The answer is never... Indeed my Ancestors fruit was earned by hard work. They did not expect a government handout nor did they ask. None of them went to College yet they accomplished great things. John F. Kennedy said "ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country." Tell how by giving handouts to illegal immigrants to benefit them over our own citizens it can benefit "our" country? Who pays for their benefit? The backs of our children, college isn't free. Our children will be paying higher taxes, higher tuition rates. Yet some them will not get the same benefit as an illegal immigrant. That is wrong! To say it will slow down the crime rate is as bad as saying if they werent here illegally they wouldnt be here at all to commit crimes. We cannot give non citizens more benefits than our own people in fact current law prohibits that: title 8 of the United States Code (U.S.C.) section 1623, which provides as pertinent:
Notwithstanding any other provision of law, an alien who is not lawfully present in the United States shall not be eligible on the basis of residence within a State (or a political subdivision) for any postsecondary education benefit unless a citizen or national of the United States is eligible for such a benefit (in no less an amount, duration, and scope) without regard to whether the citizen or national is such a resident."
The individuals are not receiving a Government handout, these are hardworking individuals who want to contribute to the govt of the country they call home, of the country they love, of the country they know. While most of us dread paying our taxes, these individuals would die just to have that chance, to be here legally and contribute to they land they see as opportunity. I just can not see why this bill has not passed.
Thanks for commenting MGTx. Sorry MGTx your wrong. If I am from Texas and decide to school in Colorado I have to pay out of state tuition. But an illegal immigrant here in Colorado illegally with this bill can get in state tuition. That isn't fair. So perhaps your hard working illegal immigrant can work very hard to A. Become a legal citizen or
B. Work just as hard as the Texas resident paying out of state tuition fees.
Sorry, this is a government handout.
You know what, go check in every single factory, restaurant, retail sales, and any other job that you can think of. Tell me who you see more employed. Tell me what you see on most job requirements besides education. Se Habla Espanol. Just because you do not like it does not mean crap. Welcome to the big melting pot of America. Why don't you join the cause and help make it better instead of finding ways to criticize what our fore fathers made for us.
Thanks for commenting Dede. You should not sterotype that is racist. Not all illegal immigrants "Hablo Espanal." Not all factories, retail sales, or restuarant only employs spanish speaking people. Many whites, blacks, and hispanics who are legal work in those places and they should be able to have at least have the same opportunties as illegal immigrants. So maybe it is you who should join me in protecting America the melting pot.
Actually Bill, we all know that the illegal immigrants that are here are 99 percent Hispanic. Which means that they all habla espanol. It is not being racist, it is stating a fact. If I was racist to the issue then I would think I would have to divorce my husband since he was born in Juarez and started off as an illegal immigrant even though his father is American. He mowed lawns and went to school to earn his citizenship. He is legal now. Every day he sees how some of this country's people treat others. If you cannot stand proud and say that there are faults in the system but that we also do not utilize all of our opportunities then what kind of person are you? We Americans, do not utilize every opportunity that we have of growth and knowledge. So when someone else shows the desire and want, we try to shove them back down. It is in our nature to do so. First Native Americans because they were on the land we wanted and would not conform. To the African Americans because they knew no better than to trust someone that promised them a better life and forced them into slavery. Now, since the Native Americans and African Americans have found a voice and will fight against this kind of oppression, the American public has chosen the Mexican Americans because there is no one else to chose. Well, if it came down to me or a Mexican for a job, I would say let the EXPERIENCED person get the job. You would be surprised of the knowledge that this culture holds. We might have technology but these people have heart and soul. I say that Republicans need to get off of our backs and allow the poor and lesser middle class a chance to stand up and shine and show America who really holds up the country.
Easy for you to say: Don't pass this bill.
You have never been in a position in your life, where you had to wonder everyday why the only country that you love will not even consider your existence. You have never spent day in life considering why you could not possibly apply for a job or scholarship, you are well over qualified for. You never had to imagine a day where you would not be allowed to drive or just enjoy some basic human rights such as the ability to receive medical care.
I agree immigration reforms has it's flaws. It is not right to reward people for breaking the law. But these people affected by the Dream Act did not break the law. Their parent's did. Why punish the kids???! It is inhumane and unbelievably insulting and closed-mindned to oppose this perfect piece of legislation.
Please think through before taking such a strong stance on issues such as this that could undoubtedly and irreparably ruin many innocent lives. A piece of paper should not stand in the way of these educated and hardworking people making positive changes in this world.
If you want to attack bad immigration reforms, do some research and you'll find plenty of it. But don't make this harmless and rightful legislation a scapegoat for your frustrations.
Thanks for reading and hopefully understanding.
Many of you are taking the Dream Act to be free pass to any one. Also saying what do Americans get in return? Did you read what the bill was about? If so did you take a minute to understand it. You have to either join the military or attend a university for two years. Is serving in the military and possibly dying not patriotic is THAT not serving your country. Also what do you think the students that go to college will do when they graduate...((((((((PAY TAXES)))))))))) Would this not pay what they have taken? Also I have met some students that would qualify for this opportunity and they have given many hours of volunteer work to improve and help out the community is THIS being American. Bill Snyder quoted John F. Kennedy above and as I read this I asked is joining the military not serving your country, is volunteering not serving your country. All I am saying is let them have a chance to be able to give back.
Also one last thing, there is no way someone would ask for 200 other relatives this is just being ignorant and stating numbers that come to mind. With the current immigration policy to ask for a sister or brother it takes around 6 months to 20 years. Most of the time taking a lot more than 6 months. Go and checked how long they actually take, don't take my word for it.
Just because someone is an illegal immigrant it doesn't mean they haven't paid taxes. Ok maybe they were paid cash but they did buy things in their resident state and paid their sales tax. And seeing how college tuitions are subsidized by state that makes states taxes more importants. Also the IRS will give ANYONE a tax ID number and collect their taxes and I know illegal immigrants that have paid their taxes. Furthermore how much do you think an illegal immigrant makes that you are making such a big deal over them not paying taxes? All of it would be returned anyway.
Lastely I think I know where you got thy 200 relative number; some retired CO congressman said it on Fox. I guess you can lay the blame on him for pulling a number out of thin air to make illegal immigrants sound scary.
7-8 million illegal aliens are working in construction, manufacturing and service industries and nearly all of these criminals are committing a felony by using fraudulent ID since they are actually on the payroll and NOT being paid under the table.
Everyone, including Obama, is in agreement that all illegal aliens guilty of a felony will be deported.
What do you say to the IRS when they send you a Notice asking why you have filed two or more tax returns?
This "Dream Act" is a horrible idea. Illegal immigrants already leech over 500 million dollars a year from us, and now you want to give them more? If this act passes, I am not going to pay my taxes anymore because the money I pay to the govt is so the govt can do their job and take care of us citizens. States barely have enough money to deal with our current economical problems, two months ago California started handing out IOU's because they ran out of money, they slashed govt employees salaries to make ends meet, and now we are going to throw more away on people that shouldnt even be here in the first place. Most states are taking out 100-500 million dollar loans from the fed. govt just so they can keep up with taking care of us US citizens with this huge spike in unemployment, increase of citizens not having health insurance. Seriously, several days ago, an computer gliche prompted a college university, cant remember which, to send out 29,000 acceptance emails to people that were actually turned down. 29,000 US citizens cant get enough assistance to go to college, but now an illegal gets a free pass. Not to mention every other month somewhere in the US a state gets devastated with a natural catastrophe, from hurricans, to blizzards, droughts that lead to forest fires, earthquakes, volcanic erupts, and crippling floods.
Thanks for commenting Xin. Great post and very true. I plan on doing a follow up article to this soon. In the works to get an opinion from a State Senator.
I have an idea regarding the people eligible for what is offered up as the current DREAM Act. As we continue to collect murders, rapists, child molesters etc. and send them back to Mexico and Central America it seems we are diluting the residual bright and good left behind in these countries by illegal immigration. I'm thinking if we were to send more than a million bright, educated, motivated and for the most part bilingual youth to these areas a true dream would occur. They may overcome the drug trade and corrupt governments by taking over and building a productive society that their parents, who brought them here, could return to.
This bill is good. Most of my fellow republicans only want to listen to the national jargon sent down to us and not think for themselves. Most opposing say just send them back!!!! My god people have compassion for those who have no choice. How on earth can we send a young adult back from a place they don't know anything about other than what they have either read or watched on tv. In most cases they don't even speak the language. I wonder why my party has lost so much control over the last several years. We never seem to want to change and if that change offers a chance to fix a problem that all politicians have been a part of then we just get dogmatic in our thinking. So many of the gamers of politics just feed at the table of our national party and some of its leaders that it just makes me sick. Talk about being lead through life by the nose.
Xin, obviously you haven't gone to a university here in US or if you did you have forgottten that you didn't get accepted into every university you applied. Just because 29,000 students got denied doesn't mean anything that happens every year. If the students applying have a high enough GPA they will get accepted somewhere.
Also can to show me where on the ACT it says the students that qualify for the DREAM ACT are gong to get a free pass?they will have to apply the same way and pay the same in-state tuition.
Xin, why don't you find out why we are paying for a nut case mother of fourteen instead of worrying why innocent homeless families cannot get help. My sister and her family had to move from Denver to Kansas because no one could help her when she was thrown out of her home in Christmas with her four children. They paid the rent and kept to themselves and just because the landlord wanted to charge higher rent they got kicked out. Why don't you check out other economic policies than just about whether we should allow immigrants to become citizens if they go to school. I'd rather have a smart immigrant than a dumb illegal one as you guys want.
Bill, I would challenge you to expand your world. Continuing to allow the underdevelopment of talented youth is going to be a huge downfall to our country. It's not about "tax payers" and that whole idea that we are Americans and were chosen as so. I think we need to start thinking about our people; especially considering you probably have one or two friends that are immigrants. If you don't...maybe its for a reason.
Just one last note...understand that as much as Americans do not want to admit it, these immigrants are deeply intertwined in our society.
A lot of good points made. The only thing that concerns me is still the word ILLEGAL. Until they come here legally they should not reap the benifits.
Thanks for commenting Chris. Chris when you say we should start thinking about our own people, I would agree. However illegal immigrants here illegally are not "our people."
When they become legal citizens then they are "our people." Not one of you saying we should have this poor bill has been able to tell me why an illegal immigrant should have more benefits then our own citizens? The law say it is wrong. So again here it is:
title 8 of the United States Code (U.S.C.) section 1623, which provides as pertinent:
Notwithstanding any other provision of law, an alien who is not lawfully present in the United States shall not be eligible on the basis of residence within a State (or a political subdivision) for any postsecondary education benefit unless a citizen or national of the United States is eligible for such a benefit (in no less an amount, duration, and scope) without regard to whether the citizen or national is such a resident."
Thanks for commenting Cliff. Good post.
Thanks for commenting Richard.
1) Please make sure you have properly done research before posting such an article. You are mixing up the State bill and the Federal bill.
2) Studies show that legalization of illegal immigrants can actually help bring in more money. Check any library journal with peer reviewed articles that have empirically researched this subject.
3) You say in your article "our people", how about looking at it from a different perspective. Something like, humans are humans and let's help the human race. (Yes I know, what an absurd idea)
4) If you want to stick to ideologies, then even the writer of this article can appreciate the fact that business and corporations will prosper. The trickle down effect will occur and actually help the economy. So I don't understand why the article said this bill is a bad idea in the time of a recession. (Again, please, before arguing these points please check unbiased research articles).
5) We need the intelligent youth in this country (We actually need all the intelligence we can get). We need the next Albert Einstein (immigrant), the next Ieoh Ming Pei (immigrant), the next Edward Teller (immigrant) to be on OUR side and promoting OUR country. Why on earth would anyone be in favor of sending this kind of talent away. (*cough* bigotry, racism, ethnocentrism *cough*).
6) Illegal immigrants (which is not a real word might I add, no human being can be "illegal") actually contribute more than we think. Sales taxes and property taxes really add up from an estimated 15 million people. I'm sure every one of them would also love to pay Federal taxes too. But I digress; I'm going to go outside and draw an imaginary line in the dirt and not let anyone cross it, because the area is MINE.
David Wilson thanks for commenting. David this not a partisan issue. The bill is sponsored by Dick Durbin D-ILL and Richard Lugar R-IND their is bipartisan support for and against the bill. I wish Republicans had more courage to stand up to this issue and many others. I am a republican and I haven't had one "national jargon order" yet, where do I get them?
Hi P thanks for commenting: Please make sure you have done your research before you accuse someone else not doing proper research.
Studies show that legalization of illegal immigrants can actually help bring in more money.
Then you say check any library journal. Checking the library is not a source. What Journal? What newsletter? What government source? You say in your article "our people", how about looking at it from a different perspective. Something like, humans are humans and let's help the human race If you want to stick to ideologies, then even the writer of this article can appreciate the fact that business and corporations will prosper. The trickle down effect will occur and actually help the economy. So I don't understand why the article said this bill is a bad idea in the time of a recession. (Again, please, before arguing these points please check unbiased research articles).
Sad but is painfully obvious you did not read the article before you commented. The term our people are not in it. You say check unbiased facts yet what are your unbiased facts to list business and corporations will prosper. In recession businesses dont increase spending. The term Trickle-down is one word. We need the intelligent youth in this country (We actually need all the intelligence we can get).
Thanks for pointing this out the difference are all these people were legal immigrants not illegal. How sad that you must accuse someone of racism because you dont agree. Illegal immigrants (which is not a real word might I add, no human being can be "illegal") actually contribute more than we think. Sales taxes and property taxes really add up from an estimated 15 million people. I'm sure every one of them would also love to pay Federal taxes too. But I digress; I'm going to go outside and draw an imaginary line in the dirt and not let anyone cross it, because the area is MINE.
Who said no human being can be illegal? Just because you dont like the term does not make it wrong. All the sales tax and property tax earned is lost through health care cost, criminal justice cost, and education cost, by billions of dollars. Remember when you play in dirt you get dirty.
as a born citizen to the US, raised in a wonderful city. I agree with P. Too many fellow classmates from my undergrad and grad university are not legal citizens. And it is a shame to not give them the chance to be citizens and be part of this great country. Contributing all that they can with the intellect and education.
also, US history was started by immigrants invading the country. Lets not forget that. They massacred and killed the native people of this country that had thoursands of years of history on this very land we call our OWN now
Are all you liberal cowards real? You are telling me that you would rather have illegal Aliens go to College instead of US citizens. I am glad our forefathers weren't Nat we all still be bowing to the king. Keep up the good work Bill.
As a tax payer in a high income bracket, I would rather invest in educating people so they can better contribute to the world than pay to fight unnecessary wars against illogical people, or pay social security/medicare/medicaid to those who aren't educated enough to plan their lives properly.
Just to put things into perspective, out of the U.S. 2009 federal budget, DOD eats up ~$600bn, SS eats up ~$600bn, and Medicare/caid eats up ~$600bn. Education, on the other hand, takes up $40bn out of our overall $2,983bn spending. I think we have more important issues to worry about.
Besides, your information is incorrect. DREAM Act doesn't govern whether someone is eligible for in-state tuition or not, the state decides that on its own.
Dude, that was a code you quoted. Those are subject to change. Now, if you were to quote the Amendments I might have actually seen your point. Things change. Whether you like it or not. Everyone should have the right to live, go to school, pay taxes, live a prosperous life, and then die in peace. People like you is what doesn't allow the US to move ahead and so other countries, where they are allowing progress, seems to think that we are backwards and unknowing. Our country is still young, still in baby steps to other countries. We need to show the world that we are not going to throw a hissy fit if someone wants to be a part of our great nation. Instead we should celebrate, welcome that chance. America: For the people, by the people, and of the people. Not for the government, by the government, and of the government. If the American population wants to let people have the American dream any way that we can, then let's do it because the people said it.
Like I said Bill, the Republicans have run this country long enough. I'm tired of hearing their opinions, seeing them wag their fingers, and hearing them complain. It was a republican that put us in debt and it's a democrat that will lead us to a new America.
Bill, when you say that those kids should be penalize because they are here "illegally", please, don't forget that they didn't have any option. Also, the immigration system is a joke. No one can be legalize today. So, what a kid that was brought here at the age of 2 is suppose to do?
Thanks for commenting Mark. I made the same point although not as direct as you lol. I am still waiting for one them to tell me that they want illegal immigrants to get more benefits than our own citizens because that is what this bill will accomplish.
Dede thanks for commenting again although I disagree with you I appreciate your comments. Yes we can change the law but that law was put their to protect US citizens. This bill is bipartisian both Republicans and Democrats support it. It is not Republicans waggin their finger. It seems to me the last politician who wagged his finger at the nation was none other than Bill Clinton and he was a democrat. Oh lets see yup he said "I did not touch that women" while wagging his finger in denial. How that work out for him?
Dear Bill: You complain the Dream Act wil cost millions in tuition breaks and military spending. "Our" party drove up federal spending with unprecedented reclklessness, so why claim costs as a reason against this legislation. Republicans nearing "retirement" (i.e. social security) will need as many Social Security payors as possible now due to the party gross mismanagement in the Bush years. Start printing the cards now. Jed
Journals and library sources should be an integral part of procedures and the creation of policies before they are implemented. Scholars in a particular field (e.g. criminal justice, business, finance, economics etc.) perform empirical field research studies. Quantitative and/or qualitative studies are done and the results are posted for other researchers, and for people to be educated before they speak on a particular subject. This is how people prove points and state facts, instead of just listening to what politicians say and restating that information.
It is rather sad that instead of providing a legitimate rebuttal to the issues, you had to point out that I spelled "trickle-down" as "trickle down". Well, I apologize. I forgot to click the spell checker (or is it spell-checker?) when I wrote my expeditious response to the article.
Does the fact that the previously mentioned immigrants were legal or illegal really change the fact they did great things they did for the country? The point of that section was that America is the best country in the world, and we have reached this feat and achieved this title by more than the people that were born here.
I have cited some scholarly articles pulled from a library database below in case you care to do some research on it. I dont expect you to change your mind on this subject, but just so that youre aware of it. I followed specific APA citation guidelines in case you want to check that I cited it correctly.

I dont mind getting dirty if it means disproving and informing people of unjust criticism, demonization, ethnocentrism, bigotry, racism, unethical and unscrupulous comments/actions and propaganda. This is not to say that you are or do any of the aforementioned, Im simply pointing out that I dont mind getting dirty for any of those things.
In response to Mark, I would not rather have illegal immigrants go to college rather than US Citizens. The school admissions system often chooses the most eligible, meaning the person with the best grades, GPA, etc. (i.e. the smartest person gets the seat). Now, if you're asking if I would rather have the person get the seat that has the best chance of bettering our country and economy, and helping the United States propel ahead of the rest of the world, then....yeah....I would rather have that guy/gal get the seat.
P.S. The responses are written with all due respect and I don't mean any offense to any individual that disagrees with me, especially Mr. Snyder. I'm glad we live in a country where we can freely discuss and debate such topics. I also respect Mr. Snyder voicing his views and opinions and making an effort to better the country, even if it's something I don't agree with. I still like to see people be active in politics and bills that are going to become laws to make sure the people of this country arent being taken advantage of.
Thanks for commenting Attorney Jed. Yes Jed George Bush hurt our party I will admit it and agree. His 700 billion-tarp fund was a failure. Unfortunately this administration has took that and made Bush's billions look like child's play. Obama is spending trillions on bailouts, writing in bonuses for big wigs then complaining and even firing those same people. Bush was bad Obama is worse. I voted for McCain, but only because he was lesser of two evils. Sadly I am correct. I not only don't like the cost, but more importantly I don't think it is the right thing to do morally.
Thanks for commenting again P. I am not sure why your questioning my research, however I will respond. I write Political Commentary primarily with news articles as well. This article is political commentary. It is commentary mixed with fact, not a research paper. However to research it, I used but not limited to the Denver Post, NCLR (La Raza), The Congressional Budget Reports, Statements from Politicians all which I used to make my own opinion. My research papers should have all the items you cited.
I dont want this commentary process to be bogged down in grammar police and Masters degree thesis writing standards. Therefore I will apologize for pointing out the Trickle-down. Please be aware I did that not only to dig you but make sure the readers would understand that it is an economic term so they can understand what is going on as well (if they googled trickle down and trickle-down they would might miss the point).
The answer to your question that previously mentioned immigrants were legal or illegal really change the fact they did great things for the country? The answer is yes. In fact this argument is more important than the cost factor. I predict future happiness for Americans if they prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them Thomas Jefferson. We are not a nation of laws if we benefit an illegal immigrant over a citizen we have lost our identity.
Thanks P for the information on your two authors.
George Agiomirgianakis, Athina Zervoyianni. (2001).
I never heard him until now he is a London economist and couldnt find the book, is it a college textbook? Any way I was able to see where your coming from and unfortunately I dont agree. I believe he is bias left and his survey is skewed because it is done in England. You from England P? That is fine with me I have no problem with it.
Your second author Sharry, Frank although a professor her writing and philosophy defiantly tilt left. I would hardly call her non-bias she rants against Republicans and props up Democrats that is not a non-bias source. I looked at her blog.
I am going to comment to your response to Mark. How can you agree with Mark when half of this bill about illegal immigrants getting in state tuition? If you don't agree with giving non-citizens benfits over citizens you cannot support this bill.
Your idea has some merit but this bill would not allow that. The College selection board in US colleges do use GPA/SAT scores and other personal history in selecting students the best students are not picked 100% of the time. In fact college hide how many are picked for other reasons. They do show averages of overall class scores.
i just think that this article is just showing one side of the coin when this legislation is positive for the wellness of the nation in terms of economy. first, people elegible for the dream act would not have the right to acquire financial aid but instead they can acquire loans that are beneficial for the country because of the interests. likewise, there will be more professionals willing to help re-establishing the economy of this country. it will create more taxes and it will give chance to these people for travelling to other countries and states of the united states creating more money for the federal and state government. definetly, the journallist who wrote this paper does not have enough information to write a document of this nature. and this laguslation can give much more as well
I think this one is a no brainer. This bill applies only to people under 30, who were brought here before 16, and have been here for 5 years. They will be given provisional residency status, and they will have to complete at least 2 years of school or the military to stay and earn citizenship.
If I understand your objection, you oppose it because we need to put American people first. I say these people are as American as you or I and I challenge you to show me how, other than a piece of legal documentation, how they are not.
You are right, this is not a partisan issue. We shouldn't put legal status of these youths in middle of our fight about illegal immigration. They are doing everything we expect of our citizens: pursing an education, serving your country, staying out of trouble.

Mr. Snyder here are the facts about the dream act it tells how it would benefit the economy during these hard times and answer the myths about illegals who would be granted by the dream act would benefit more than those people u call "our people". please take time to read it.
Thanks for commenting Don. Our nation is a nation of laws. Illegal Immigrants are here illegally therefore they are and should not be entitled to more benefits than US Citizens.
dreamactivistdotorg thanks for commenting. You can't even leave a nickname, your fake name is like your fake myths. I am sorry when our country is approaching double digit unemployment you are not going to tell me illegal immigrants will work jobs that Americans won't. All your talking points are lies, half truths and myths.
A "legal" or citizen student from out-of-state has the possibility of gaining residency and receive in-state tuition by living in the state where she/he plans on attending school for a predetermined amount of time(usually a year). A student without a SSN, despite the fact that they have resided in a particular state for many years, is never able to gain in-state tuition. How is that discriminating against " legal student[s] from out of state"?
Mr. Bill Snyder I respect your opinion but i very much disagree! My parents braught my brother to the united states when he was 5 years old, and i was born here and now im a citizen like any of those people that you call "our people" my brother graduated aproxamitly 2 tears ago and im close to graduating with a full 4 year scholarship and my brother also had a sholarship for graphic desighn very exited to move on to getting a higher education, unfortunatly he was denied for being an "illegal imigrant" as you say even when hes been living here for 17 years. he was very heart broken and now is living a very sad life.
I ashure you that many other familys like ours have to go through the same problems . and its very sad that the people that we look up to "our people" are as selfish enough to say that this act is unfair when weve been following OUR countries laws just as much as "our people".
