While you probably don’t want to walk in on him making love to another woman, you can still find enough unequivocal proof to catch him. Here's how:

• Following the trail of receipts is a great way to catch someone. These little slips of paper can be the evidence you need to confront your mate because he or she will often forget to throw them away. Check the bathroom trash. Using the date and time stamp to prove that she left the store two hours before she got home will help you uncover a falsified time line. Alternatively, she could have purchased a sexy piece of lingerie that you haven’t seen. A receipt from a bar or restaurant detailing her favorite drinks and those of others (especially during a falsified time line) is a dead giveaway.

• Look for gifts that didn’t come from you. These could be as simple as a bottle of perfume or a small piece of jewelry. For a man, it could be a tie, new shirt, cologne or a pair of shoes. Obviously around the holidays - with numerous office parties, secret Santa gifts, and gifts from friends - this would be harder to prove. Sometimes these gifts are cleverly hidden in plain sight – like a pretty flower arrangement for your dining room table or bath oils. These are things she could have purchased for herself.

• Phone calls can be quite telling. If they can’t be together, an intimate phone conversation is the next best thing. He may try to get out of earshot or make excuses to get away from the house to call her. However, covering your tracks is mentally taxing. Soon he’ll start slipping up and taking chances he shouldn’t – you just have to be ready for this.

• Working late hours or making excuses to leave the house are equally telling. While there are some legitimate reasons for this activity, if there is something illicit going on, he will slip up eventually. Patience is key here.

• Internet software to moniter activity is your friend. A lot of the same software used to track a teen’s activity on the internet can be used to track your spouse’s net presence. Most of this software runs silently in the background and can be installed without your partner’s knowledge. If he spends a lot of time on the internet chatting late at night or you suspect he has hidden e-mail accounts, you can use monitoring software to find out whether he’s cyber cheating.

• Check his cell phone call log. He may forget to clear the call or text log on his phone. That is, if he hasn’t figured out that a prepaid cell is untraceable.

• Place a GPS device on her car. Many moderately priced units are available that will enable you to find out where she is at any time of the day or night. Then you can check her story against her whereabouts.

• Hire a private investigator. It seems old school, but if you’re just not sure this may be the only way to get definitive proof.

One final tip: before confronting your mate, be certain. Don’t get so wrapped up in your search that you ignore logical explanations for his behavior. Gather enough evidence that you are convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is guilty.
