Most third culture kids accept people for who they are, regardless of the color of their skin and even their religion. Although third culture kids are aware of the cruelty which exists in the world, they are more inclined to believe that not all people are that way. Here's a great example of the kindness that exists in the world:
December 3, 2009-- CNN reports that a would-be robber sent a thank you note to a store owner he was trying to rob. In the month of May 2009, Mohammad Sohail from New York was closing his Shirley Express convenience store. Then, a man came in with a baseball bat and demanded money. Unknown to the robber, Mohamad Sohail had a rifle hidden. He aimed it at the robber's face without loading the gun.
The robber then begs for mercy saying, ""I'm sorry, I have no food. I have no money. My whole family is hungry. Don't call the police. Don't shoot me." Mohammad Sohail feels sorry for him and made the man promise to never steal again. Then, he takes it one step further by giving the man $40 and a loaf of bread. Mohamad Sohail then went to get some milk. As he was getting the milk, the robber fled.
Mohammad Sohail did not press any charges. Mohammad Sohail's act of kindness touched many hearts in the nation. He received many letters including checks for a total of $200. Mohammad Sohail decided he was not going to use the money for himself. Instead, he gave it back to others less fortunate by giving free bagels, rolls and coffee in his store every night after 9 o'clock.
Then he received a letter on Wednesday from the robber. The typed letter said, "At the time I had No money No food on my table No Job, and nothing for my family. I know that it was wrong, but I had know (sic) choice. I needed to feed My family. When You had That gun to my head I was 100% that I was going to die." The letter tells Mohammad Sohail that he inspired the man to become a "True Muslim." The letter also had $50 in cash.
"I'm very happy that somebody got to change his life," Sohail said. "If he is a maybe criminal, maybe is not anymore. So now he is a good person in this community and I'm very glad for that. He's staying out of trouble, he's not in a jail, he's taking care of his family.
One man making a difference in the lives not only of the robber but of many others who hear about his kindness. Reminds us (me included) of how we can influence other people's lives. What will we do to make a difference, today?

Sorry about the typo. Am fixing it. :-)
People in this country need more news of Muslims like this to curb the spread of Islamophobia.
Thank you.
Wow, what a nice story. The robber was very lucky he met a kind man..but I would tell anyone to call the cops, criminals will give you any story to get to go free (I learned that with 10 years in law enforcement)..not to put a damper on a nice story;-)
I tweeted it for ya:-)
What a sweet story all-in-all. It's too bad things don't turn out so well more often.
Mohammad Sohail sounds like a very special person. I'm glad this story had such a happy ending for everyone involved.
Great tie-in. I was glad to hear about this story.
Thanks for the comment Sherri. Yes, that's a good point. We should call the cops first. :-)
