Celebrity chef Cat Cora (pictured at right with Mickey Mouse), the first and only female Iron Chef on Food Network's popular program "Iron Chef America," is bringing her culinary talent to the Boardwalk resort at Walt Disney World. Her restaurant, Kouzzina by Cat Cora, will feature what she calls "time-honored recipes passed down from my ancestors, as well as my favorite Greek and Mediterranean dishes that my family loves."
Kouzzina, which is Greek for “kitchen” and is pronounced “koo-zee-nah,”) will take the spot currently occupied by Spoodles. It joins Flying Fish Cafe, Big River Grille and Brewing Works, and the ESPN Club as a place to grab a bite at the popular Disney resort. Boardwalk is easily reachable from Epcot and Disney Hollywood Studio, and it is close to Yacht and Beach Club and the Swan and Dolphin Hotels, making it easy for guests to pop over and try the new eatery when it debuts this fall.
Cora has a history of working with Disney which started in 2008 when she creared a special Disney Video on Demand series. It showcases ways to help families develop more healthy eating habits. Cora says she is very excited about the latest phase of her relationship with Disney. She says, "Together, we’re going to develop a truly amazing contemporary Mediterranean restaurant."
Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, says "I am pleased to welcome Cat Cora and her engaging new concept for Kouzzina to the Walt Disney World Resort. This collaboration between Cat and Disney represents a significant step in our ongoing commitment to offer unique culinary experiences and choices for our guests."
Cora brings an impressive array of experience to this new venture. Besides being an Iron Chef, she graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in New York and is Executive Chef for Bon Appétit magazine. In addition to the Disney video series, she has been a featured chef at the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival and at Disney’s California Food & Wine Festival at Disneyland Resort.
