Polly MacIntyre, who lives in Philadelpia, is the creator of Belles of Dublin, An Evening of Irish Theatre and Music.  Other recent performances include The Mystery Plays, Swimming in the Shallows, and Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest.  She also performed in The Whiteheaded Boy and Dancing at Lughnasa. She brings She Moved to Through the Fair to this year's Capital Fringe Festival.

Is this your first Fringe Experience?

It's my first Capital Fringe experience, but not my first fringe show.  I produced an original work, Golden Years on the Horizon, at the Philly Fringe in 2005.

What drew you to this piece?

It was inspired by the works of Edna O'Brien, a wonderful Irish writer who I adore.  I think she has a remarkable insight into women.

Tell us a little about the concept for the show.

The show illuminates the romantic life of a contemporary Irishwoman with bittersweet, comic tales of coming of age, illicit love affairs gone wrong, an unforgettable plan for revenge, and its surprising aftermath.  It is a universal story that takes a woman from from innocence to jaded cynicism, and then comes back to a state of wary hope for the future.

Why should Fringe patrons see your show?

It is charming, wise, and hilariously funny - the story of the disastrous afternoon tryst with a drummer is funny as hell, and the plan for revenge will chill your blood!  Like most people, the main character makes some foolish mistakes, gets hurt and hurts others, learns and never learns, yet fearlessly emerges ready for whatever life will bring.

What's next for you and/or for the company?

Belles of Dublin, An Evening of Irish Theatre and Music, comes back to Philadelphia's Red Room on St. Patrick's Day.

I have a lot of auditions for other plays coming up, and don't want to jinx my chances by mentioning them!

Anything else you want to add?

Here's an exerpt from She Moved Through the Fair:  "My lover, her husband, had been observing me since my arrival.  At first I was annoyed, and purposely moved away from him.  But he orbited me in ever-diminishing circles, until finally I glanced at him, and changed my tactics, when I realized he was exactly the type of man to whom I could never fail to be attracted: tall, slightly graying, with cold eyes and a brilliant, if reluctant smile - just short of handsome."

Also a disclaimer - flowers will be mutilated in this production, which is okay for teens with cool parents (sexual references)

Performances of She Moved Through the Fair are as follows (all performances at Warehouse-Next Door; 1021 7th ST NW):

July 16th 6:15 pm
July 17th 10:30 pm
July 18th 7:30 pm

Fringe venues are small, so purchase tickets early to avoid disappointment.
