Are you looking for something fun to do this Halloween? Why not get into the spooky spirit and support local theatre at the same time? If you're interested in some frightful theatrical fun, the Tampa Bay area has a number of theatrical options to suit your needs.
The Gorilla Theatre in Tampa continues its critically acclaimed production of the Woman In Black with two performances on Halloween night; one at 6:00PM and a special evening showing at 10:00PM with a buffet and prizes. The show, while scary, is not gory or graphic, so, while you might not want to bring young children, the show should be perfectly suitable for older children/teens. Directed by the incomparable Ami Sallee Corley and starring the superbly talented Chris Rutherford and Glenn Gover, this show is worth every penny of its twenty-five dollar ticket price. However, if you can't afford full price tickets, Gorilla Theatre has a number of reduced ticket options including five dollar discounts for students and seniors, half off student rush tickets available thirty minutes before the start of the show, and free tickets for volunteer ushers. For more information, check out their website.
Jobsite Theatre is also offering its own terrifying theatrical performance this year with the theatrical adaptation of the cult classic film, Night of the Living Dead. According to the artistic director of Jobsite, David Jenkins, "with lots of surprises planned both inside and outside the theatre, this show will be a complete experience from the time patrons arrive until they get in their cars to leave." Night of the Living Dead can be seen Thursdays-Saturdays at 8PM and Sundays at 4PM at the Shimberg Playhouse in the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $24.50.
If you're looking for something more kid-friendly, check out the Village Player's Halloween Party. Doors open at 7:00 pm and admission is only $5.00. Entertainment will include live music with Kevin Joiner from Beyond the Map, a magic show with Mr. Bones specifically geared toward children, and a costume contest complete with raffles and prizes. At 9:30, the party will transition into an adults only party and will feature a Rocky Horror themed performance with acclaimed magician Mr. Bones. The party will take place from 7-12 at the James McCabe Theatre in Valrico.
So, if you don't have plans for Halloween yet, come out and support your local theaters. However, if you can't make it out this Saturday, there's no need to fear, both the Woman in Black and Night of the Living Dead will be ready and willing to scare you until mid-November.
