SLAC gearing up for Saturday's Voyeur 2009

For those of you who who aren’t familiar with the caberet-style “Saturday’s Voyeur” productions that have taken over the Salt Lake Acting Company’s summer stage for the last 31 years (and if you aren’t, where in the world have you been all that time?) here’s a quick test to see if you’re interested. If the idea of queer dancing missionaries, Gary Coleman, and a lime green one-piece body thong together in the same show either confuse or horrify you, please proceed to the next posting. If you find yourself snickering at the possibilities, however, welcome to the show.

This year’s production, which is scheduled to run June 3 through August 17 every Wednesday through Sunday, loosely follows both a radio show format and the trials and tribulations of the Freebes, Happy Valley’s nuttiest nuclear family. With “Saturday’s Voyeur” shows, however, it’s a year’s worth of things to poke fun at that’s the real focus, as the cast and crew go after everything from the hot missionary calendars to the woman with the really long fingernails. And, of course, let’s not forget the sparkling economy.

“There is no other theater in the country with a ‘Saturday’s Voyeur,’” said Executive Producer Nancy Borgenicht. “Could something like this be done in any other city? Doubtful. And run for three months? Doubtful. And for 31 years? It’s unique to where we live. And it’s about us. It doesn’t get any better than that.”

Tickets are anywhere from $39 to $54 depending on the performance, and can be purchased either online or through calling 801-363-SLAC. Naturally, the show is for mature audiences only.
