There’s something deeply satisfying about plays that are emotional roller coasters – if nothing else, it distracts you from any emotional rides you might by on in your own life.
In Harold Pinter’s “The Caretaker,” the kickoff for SLAC’s 2009-2010 season, a tramp named Davies is brought into a flat by Aston, an incredibly lonely person. The owner of the flat is Aston’s brother Mick, is ruthlessly ambitious. When Davies gets offered the caretaker’s job, the three get entangled in a dangerous power game with ever-increasing stakes that will leave no one the same as they had been.
“It’s a big, bold statement,” said John Vreeke, who is directing the production. “The language is poetic-it’s musical-it’s vague-it’s mysterious-it’s full of tension.”
Tickets for the show, which runs Sept. 16 through Oct. 11, are available online. The show has a free ZAPped Tuesday performance on Sept. 15, and on Sept. 20 new SLAC Executive Artistic Director Jason Bruffy will be joining the cast for a post-play discussion after the 2 p.m. production. And on Oct. 8, there’s a Matthew Ivan Bennett fan club performance at 7:30 p.m. (Bennett plays the role of Mick). Tickets for that performance will be $20.
