The ghosts, if they’re there, seem to be a little shy.
Michael Zimmer, director of the Paranormal Investigation Team of Utah, stayed overnight at the Midvale Main Street Theatre on Oct. 16 to see if he and his team could make contact with any of the ghosts that have reported to be heard in the building. The team set up infrared cameras, audio recorders and EMF meters in several locations in the building as well as attempting to engage the ghosts verbally, and while they got a few possible responses there was nothing the team felt comfortable confirming as actual paranormal contact.
“We’re pretty critical of evidence,” said Zimmer. He and two other members of the team, Heather Ranck and Amber Harnaker, split up to investigate several areas including the main stage, the dressing rooms, the costume room, and the lighting booth. “We need to be certain before we’ll call it paranormal.”
Still, Zimmer said that the place has a “good feel” to it, and the team hopes to go back to the theater again.
“We often need to go back to a location several times before we start making regular contact,” he said. “It’s almost as if whoever is there needs to get to know us before they start to trust us.”
As to whether or not there is actually someone (or several someones) waiting there at the theater, Zimmer has little doubt.
“I’ve never known a theater not to be haunted,” he said. “My theory is that when people love something as much as theater people love the stage, they don’t want to leave. Ever. It’s not just in their blood, it’s in their soul.”
