The power of art is better than any séance for allowing the dead to speak again.
In Salt Lake Acting Company’s current production of “Master Class,” running now through Nov. 8, actress Anne Cullimore Decker channels the famous opera singer Marie Callas for a night of discussion about opera, art, and life, all done with a healthy sense of humor (tickets are available online).
Decker, who also played Callas in SLAC’s last production of “Master Class” 11 years ago, was more than happy to spend more time with a woman that she says is “still in her bones.” Director David Mong, who is also returning to the play after the previous SLAC production, was also fascinated.
“All through this play, she's looking back, and I think what's interesting to me is that she was, actually personally, at a time where she was at sea – and reflective,” said Wong. “Looking back and wondering where's she's going to go from here - and looking back and sort of reassessing her life - and that comes flooding into the play, and it's very rich.&rdquo
