Arizona Theatre Company will celebrate the new 2010-11 season with a benefit Gala 2010: A Night in Lights featuring a special performance by Broadway's Megan Hilty at its sumptous Tucson home, the Temple of Music and Art on evening of September 25 from 5:00 PM to 9:30 PM.
On this very special night, the Arizona Theatre Company's spectacular Gala 2010: A Night in Lights promises to bring the excitement of the New York, Broadway experience to Tucson.
The event will begin with a wine reception in the courtyard at the Temple of Music and Art, located at 330 South Scott Avenue in downtown Tucson. Following the reception, guests will be entertained with a special concert by the fabulous Megan Hilty. Dinner and dancing to Katy & Co. and a live auction will round out the evening's magical festivities.
All proceeds from the Gala support Arizona Theatre Company's education and community based programs, programs that foster the rich and varied talents of local artists and enhance the theater experience for audiences of the future.
Megan Hilty is well-known for having played the co-starring role of Glinda in both in the original Broadway and National companies of Wicked. Most recently, she co-starred on Broadway in the musical version of the 1980 film 9 to 5, playing the role made famous by Dolly Parton. For that role, as Doralee Rhodes, Hilty was nominated for the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical, the Drama League Award for Distinguished performance, and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical.
The Gala is a perfect compliment to Arizona Theatre Company's first production of the 2010-11 season, the new musical Backwards in High Heels, conceived and developed by Lynnette Barkley and Christopher McGovern; book/musical Arrangements/original songs by Christopher McGovern
with additional music by George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, and Jerome Kern. Backwards in High Heels plays at the Temple of Music and Art from September 10 to October 2, 2010 before dancing its merry way towards Phoenix.
