Zombie Prom: A little unknown musical

current show poster

In the upcoming weeks the Oklahoma City area will be booming with quite a few productions. One of those shows is Zombie Prom which is being done as a joint production between the University of Central Oklahoma and CityRep. Zombie Prom is a small unknown show that is not widely done. The creative team behind the show is Dana P. Rowe (Music) and John Dempsey (book and Lyrics), who also did The Fix (which premiered in Oklahoma by UCO in the fall of 2007) and The Witches of Eastwick.

Zombie Prom is a 1950’s horror comic book brought to life as a musical comedy. It stuck close to the comic by keeping it set in the 50’s. The store revolves around Toffee, the typical 1950’s good girl, who falls in love with the hoodlum, Jonny. Toffee and Jonny meet and fall in love at Enrico Fermi High. The two are forced to break up and Jonny jumps into the nuclear power plant waste. When Jonny comes back as a zombie, Toffee must choose true love over making everyone else happy. Zombie Prom will bring your love for the 50’s back and leave you longing for that type of wonderful love story. It is about being with who you really love…even if that person is the undead. Zombie Prom runs April 10th - 12th and the 17th – 19th.

I would recommend anyone who loves the musical, Grease or the teen flick, My Boyfriend’s Back to go and watch the zany, musical comedy, Zombie Prom. Not only is it an edgy show but it is one of those shows that is not done very often and it will definitely leave you smiling.

Also don’t forget to go and check some of the other shows in the area opening this weekend. Pollard presents Disney’s Beauty and the Beast which runs April 3rd through May 3rd and OU presents BABY April 3rd- 5th and April 8th- 11th. Plus Carpenter Square performs The Left Hand Singing which is currently running through the 11th of this month.
