Two theater-related support events are taking place in the NY Metro area today.
The first one is Broadway Barks 11, which is the annual adopt-a-thon created by Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore. The event is designed to find homes for pets from NYC animal shelters. The day-long event, hosted by Peters and Moore and sponsored by ASPCA and Pedigree, is scheduled for 3:30-6:30 PM. Additionally, Peters will be doing a book signing of her New York Times bestseller called "Broadway Barks," at 1 PM.
A number of celebrities including Stephanie J. Block (9 to 5), Matt Cavanaugh (West Side Story), Gavin Creel (Hair), Marcia Gay Harden (Gods of Carnage), Angela Lansbury (Blithe Spirit), Constantine Maroulis (Rock of Ages), David Hyde Pierce (Accent on Youth) and many others will be doing presentations of the pets from citywide animal shelters beginning at 5:30 p.m. Proceeds from an auction and other donations received during the day will benefit the shelters and various organizations .

The second event takes place in Asbury Park this evening. The Revision Theatre Company will hold a benefit at the beautifully refurbished Paramount Theatre on the Boardwalk (1300 Ocean Avenue) in Asbury Park. The show Funny Girl will be performed with a special appearance by the fabulous Lainie Kazan.The one night only Benefit Performance is a fund-raiser for the Revision Theatre as they enter the 2009 - 2010 season. Steven Brinberg will appear as Barbra Streisand. This promises to be a most unique event.
