The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra has been selected as one of six orchestras that will participate in the second annual Spring for Music festival at Carnegie Hall in New York City in May 2012. The innovative festival invites North American orchestras to propose a concert program that is adventurous and creative; the festival directors select the orchestras that best demonstrate “imaginative, meaningful and deliberate thought behind the selection of pieces, the sequence of pieces, the program structure and the presentation of pieces.”

Incoming NJSO Music Director Jacques Lacombe, who assumes the helm of the Orchestra in September, crafted the NJSO’s ambitious program for the festival; Spring for Music will announce the complete program for the 2012 festival at a later date.

NJSO President and CEO André Gremillet said: “The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra is extremely proud to have been chosen to participate in this exciting program. We are pleased that Spring For Music is recognizing the creative programming and artistic quality of the NJSO under Music Director Jacques Lacombe, and we look forward to returning to Carnegie Hall.”

“The festival is designed to allow chosen orchestras to showcase their artistic philosophies through distinctive and creative programming in one of the world’s most competitive musical environments,” says the Spring for Music announcement of the 2012 participating orchestras. “The festival becomes a musical laboratory that can foster greater innovation in each orchestra’s home market.”
In addition to the NJSO, Spring for Music has named the Houston, Nashville, Edmonton, Alabama and Milwaukee Symphony Orchestras as the participants in the 2012 festival.

Spring for Music will feature a performance by one orchestra each night for six nights; the NJSO will present its program on May 9, 2012. All tickets for the 2012 Spring for Music festival are $25 and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The date on which tickets will go on sale, as well as the date on which the festival’s programs will be announced, is forthcoming. For more information, visit www.springformusic.com.
