'Real Housewives, Real Problems': Jeana, Vicki, and Lynne on Dr. Phil

The Real Housewives of Orange County's Jeana Keough, Vicki Gunvalson, and Lynne Curtin made an appearance on the Dr. Phil show today, where they discussed having a budget (what's that?), their spending habits and financial circumstances.

Vicki, who says she has always kept a close eye on where her money goes, explains why she refused to let Jeana borrow money from her. Dr. Phil agrees with Vicki's decision.

Jeana talks about the difficulty of living on a budget, because she's never had to do it, no less in Orange County:

"I come home, and I see the receipt on the counter of a $200 lunch at the St. Regis," says her son on videotape. "When you were making $1,000,000 a year on real estate, then you could go spend $400 on lunch and $600 at dinner. It was fine." "It’s just hard to change that quickly. It’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks," Jeana justifies. She says its been hard for her son to adjust to downsizing; Dr. Phil points out that Jeana's son is 23. "And you’re paying for his SUV?" he asks, incredulous. "His Escalade?"

To Lynne, regarding her finances:  "Do you know how much money is in savings? Do you know how much he [her husband] makes? Do you know how much is in retirement? Do you know what the overall budget is?" She answers no to all questions.

"If he hasn’t been forthcoming before, and nothing has happened to change him, he probably won’t be forthcoming in the future, which means you need to get in the loop and find out for yourself," "Women need to know what’s going on in the family finances — whether you’re the breadwinner, the stay-at-home mom, whatever — you need to know." - Dr. Phil

Vicki Gunvalson seems to be the only one without money worries these days saying:

"I’m a financial planner, so for me, I look at life differently. My son drives a 2001 paid for Tahoe, and when he will get a new one is when he’ll be able to afford one. He’s 23. My daughter just got a leased Mercedes. She’s paying for it all on her own. She’s 22. My husband drives a five-year-old car," Vicki responds. "I want to make sure we live within our means. I look at every dollar that goes out and every dollar that comes in, and there’s more being saved than we’re spending right now, because I want to save for that rainy day."

I noticed that as well. She also says "borrow to" in her blog.

That was why I was Googling this! I wanted to tell her the difference between lend and borrow. Which right there kind of makes me dumber than Vicky.
