The Real Housewives of New York City has it's own "Eco Warrior" in Allyson Shapiro Zarin, of (Teens Turning Green), as she brings you an eco-friendly gift-giving guide this year. Ally recently made an appearance on NBC New York's LXTV and shared her expertise at keeping things green and eco friendly. Pushing products like Whole Foods' skin care products (7 to 12 dollars), mineral make up with SPF, vegan shoes, recycled glass vodka bottle/Coke bottle earrings, travel bags--made with carbon neutral materials. Ally was wearing a little necklace that said "Ginger" - Jill's dog. You remember Jill's dog! The overall message? Whatever you have, there is a green alternative. The Dirty Thirty is a list of 30 chemical ingredients that may be linked to cancer. Compare healthy and harmful with their printable PDF list of the "Dirty Thirty." For more info, please visit the Teens for Safe Cosmetics blog at Whole Foods. The rest of the NYC Housewives also share their green routines:
- Ramona Singer never asks for a paper bag or napkins when she buys her tea or a sandwich. Also, her skin care products are green (but work like they're chemical-like!)
- The Countess recycles plastic bags and water bottles
- Bethenny likes energy-saving light bulbs, conserving plastic take-out containers and reusing water bottles
In Orange County:
- Lauri Waring-Peterson's house recycles AND they compost. She said that they are also looking into "smart cars"
- Vicki recycles and works a mere 2 miles from her house
- Jeana uses cute cloth shopping bags
- Tamra greens her routine by teaching her kids to recycle using plastic and glass recycling containers
- Gretchen recycles old clothes by donating them ("like cans, but clothes.")
