Peter Tork's battle with cancer

Peter Tork, as many people know, was recently diagnosed with a rare cancer called, adenoid cystic carcinoma.  Tork, though, has been extremely optomistic and positive throughout this whole experience.

Despite the grim news, he regularly posts updates on his Facebook, with the latest news about his treatments and how he is feeling.  He also continues to tour with his band, The Shoe Sude Blues, and update fans about when the latest concert is going to be.

He seems to be doing well according to his updates, which he usually always seems to include some good news in.  He also seems to enjoy keeping in touch with the fans.  Although he has well over 3,000 friends, he still takes the time out to answer questions.  He regularly posts notes on facebook, where he'll answer different fans questions.

There is also a wonderful "Hope On Project" for Peter!  Through his facebook and his official site, www.petertork.com, there is information about donations.  He has t-shirts and wrtistbands to buy, where portions of the profits go to charity and to research foundations.  Check out his official site, because he has some great information, and he also has some links to other cancer research websites.

Survivor? The reality is that this cancer is incurable. Read the data, of which there is little. This cancer hits 1,200 people annually; after the surgery and radiation there are no other options left when the cancer returns.
Being positive is fine but also live in the real world.
After 10 to 15 years, the fatality rate is 79 percent. And, this cancer either spreads to the lungs or brain, making it that much more difficult to deal with.
Finally, because this cancer spreads through the nerves, there really is no way to fight it; there is no chemotherapy, no radiation or surgery when it gets that far.

Being positive has a negligible effect on survival rates. This cancer is incurable and has a high rate of reoccurence. It is chemo resistant and consequently if and when it re occurs there is usually little chance of any effective treatment.
