Al Roker tries to lay the smackdown on Speidi

This morning on Today , Al Roker interviewed small screen celebs Spencer and Hedi Pratt. In an obvious attempt to come down on the couples recent antics on “I'm a Celebrity...Get me Out of Here”, Roker tossed out questions that were meant to be antagonistic. We all love to hate the quitting couple who rode Lauren Conrad's coattails into the spotlight only to turn on her and spread nasty sex tape rumors, but really Al? Did you think you were going to get these guys riled up for your show? There's something particularly silly about a man who has made himself famous by conforming to mainstream society, trying to predict the unpredictable weather, and now performing whatever functions NBC might have for him, making fun of a couple who is just trying to make their money the same way he is. So Spedi might be crass, and will do just about anything to get themselves on camera, but how are they different from the rest of American society who fills out applications by the thousands to get themselves on shows to eat bugs and survive in the jungle? Hedi told Roker that she is “not ashamed” and was in fact proud of her behavior. We may not always agree with Hedi's and Spencer's ridiculous antics, but there is something fun about watching them make a mockery of themselves and the media that keeps us all tuning in.

Later on Ryan Seacrest's radio show Heidi said, "I was shocked at how rude he was...I felt personally attacked...to be honest I would never be interviewed by that man again." Spencer claimed that he thought he was going to be interviewed by Matt Laurer, but instead found himself face to face with a weatherman.

The couple says they are anxious for the new season of "The Hills", and can't wait for America to see what Kristin Cavallari brings to the show. Neither can we Spedi...neither can we.

If one is unable to distinguish the ultra obvious difference between Al and two bozo "children" who can't come up with a complete thought between the two of them.....then all the money in the world couldn't buy such a pathetic observer.

AL did a great job interviewing. Sorry lady but you seem uninformed. Al Came from Queens, New York and got a double majored in graphic design and broadcasting/journalism in college. So their not making their money the same way. Al worked hard! As for Heidi & Spencer they just got lucky to take the fad position that I pray will soon be over. Al is standing up and saying American get a life don't which the Hills or any they have to do with H&S. Heidi and Spencer are in the media so people can make fun of them and hate them and it's sad they don't see that. People do not even bother with this turn the channel or web site for that matter. let the Examiner (AKA wannabe journalism people that don't have real facts) watch and write thing about people that are not real and we will not be regretful for being so dumb for wasting are time.

CO- I'm sorry if you were offended by my article. I was simply trying to point out that Mr. Roker did not need to be so aggressive. If he wanted to make a point that Speidi should be ignored, then he should have led by example instead of attacking them.
P.S. An argument in which you attack someone's skills and career is more effective if the person on the offensive utilizes proper grammar and correct spelling. Otherwise the argument seems ignorant.

Give me a break. I find Al Roker to be a decent person who, just like Whoopi did on The View, show concern for two people that are gooing down the wrong path. ho dod they think they are M. Palin who likes to interjecct garbage and move away from the real issue- they are spoiled brats.

Too many people are unemployed, like me, and I think they really need to grow up, go away and leave a decent man like Al Roker alone, because they look like the jokers.

Taina-- I think your response to CO was disrespectful and out of line!

Granted grammer and spelling was a problem with CO, but it was not so bad that you could not see the point that was trying to be mad. And I'm pretty sure, you did not have to respond to what was an intelligent point in a manner that alienates people from wanting to read your article. I found your response to be nothing short of rude and condescending.

But back to Roker. I also found your response to him to be nothing short of rude and condescending. I think Roker asking Hedi if she was "proud" was legit and I'm not sure he and the Pratts are trying to make their money the same way at all. I do not see Hedi getting a degree in journalism and then using it.

They represent 2 different types of media, and for you to throw them together like that, shows me that you have no respect for real media. People like you just encourage "Spedi" that it is OK to act the way they do. shame on you

c84- I apologize if you find my response to CO condescending, but I do not think it is inappropriate for me to defend myself from an attack. As for your own comment, I think that there will always be Heidis and Spencers in the world. This is America, and people will capitalize upon any opportunity they can.I think Al Roker was simply not clever enough to put Speidi in their place, and looked like he was on the attack. I'm all for tearing those two down (see my articles on their performance on the show), but he just made himself look silly. I wish he had asked them about how vacuous they were making themselves seem, but instead he basically resorted to name calling. Why didn't he ask them about the charities they were representing or how they seem to be making a mockery of real Christianity? I think he dropped the ball in his interview and sunk to a sophomoric level which was not representative of a man with his education. Therefore he is no better than they are.

YAWN! If you don't like what's on TV, do what I did, and UNPLUG THE MACHINE. Remember the TV only works when it is ON!
