Ray, Jim, John, Robby and Doug?

My Days with The Doors by Doug Lubahn

That’s what The Doors line up could have been had Doug Lubahn taken Doors producer Paul Rothchild up on his offer to join The Doors as their bass player. Lubahn played bass for The Doors from the Strange Days album through The Soft Parade, but turned down the offer because he was loyal to his band Clear Light.

This is just one of the many Rock ‘n’ Roll stories Lubahn relates in his book My Days With The Doors and Other Stories. The first quarter of the book is about Lubahn coming to L.A. on the advice of Mama Cass Elliott and how he hooked up with The Doors. He relates his contributions to The Doors songs and albums he was on. He provides some nice personal insight into each of The Doors. It’s quite apparent he still has great respect and affection for The Doors and they return the sentiments as evidenced by a reunion in Florida when Ray and Robby were touring as The Doors of the 21st Century. Lubahn had a life after The Doors and it reads like a Rock ‘n’ Roll who’s who and adventures. From joining Billy Squier’s band, to writing the song Treat Me Right which Pat Benatar made a hit, to hanging with Miles Davis, John Belushi, and Madonna, and that is only for starters! I could just list all the Rock ‘n’ Roll personalities Lubahn has known and that would make a compelling enough review for you to buy the book! The book is very nice high gloss with lots of pictures. His stories are episodic and can be read one at a time or two or three in sitting. And each one a Rock ‘n’ Roll gem!
