Bob Weir and his band Ratdog — drummer Jane Lane, keyboardist Jeff Chimenti, guitarist Mark Karan, saxophonist Kenny Brooks and bassist Robin Sylvester — are tearing up concert stages all summer long. The group is currently playing venues all over the East Coast, including the Gathering of the Vibes festival in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on Saturday, July 25. Celebrating the life of Jerry Garcia, this festival will also feature Crosby, Stills and Nash, Buddy Guy and George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic. Along the way, the Gathering of the Vibes is partnering with the Terrapin Foundation to host a non-perishable food drive to benefit three local food pantries.
In August, Ratdog heads west for shows in Oregon, Washington, Montana, Idaho, California and Nevada. A fall tour to begin in October will take Ratdog back to the east for multiple night runs in three venues. Beginning October 16, Bob Weir's 62nd birthday, the group will play two nights at the Tower Theatre in Upper Darby, Philadelphia, before traveling to New York City for five more gigs.
Setlists from Ratdog have been rich with blues and rock standards, Bob Dylan and Beatles tunes, and, of course, plenty of Grateful Dead. On July 5 (a day after the Dead played Rothbury), Ratdog were joined by Black Crowes lead singer Chris Robinson in Columbus, Ohio, for the Beatles’ “Dear Prudence” before veering off into “Dark Star” and “Touch Of Grey.” Other highlights include Weir sitting in with opener Jackie Greene and Sara Wasserman for "Sugaree" on July 11 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and a set that featured "Black Peter," "St. Stephen," and "The Eleven" on July 14 in Rochester, New York.
