Teteo Tequila Blanco
There’s something attractively unassuming about Teteo tequila. It comes in a short, rectangular bottle with a modest amount of ornamentation. The Teteo (which means “of the gods”) logo is strong and simple - the name, in caps and light blue, sits just below an Aztec sun.
At under $30 a bottle, Teteo won’t break the bank, and once you get inside, it’s worth every penny.
Teteo Tequila Blanco Tasting Notes
This is a crystal clear blanco that has long, thin legs which creep slowly down the glass. The scent is crisp, strong, and fruity on the nose. It lacks the astringent scent of paint thinner found in some blancos. The citrus notes are fairly strong, with a slight hint of pineapple. Give it another sniff and you will detect aromas of mint and even chocolate hiding behind the fruity nose. Teteo begins lightly on the palate and has a slightly oily, slick texture. It is mildly sweet upon entry, and is pleasantly complimented by vegetal and almost earthy agave flavor. Herbal and minty flavors emerge as it hits the middle of the tongue. The medium-long finish is smooth and reveals just a hint of chocolate and cream. Overall, this Teteo is wonderfully balanced in flavor, texture, and finish.

Cocktail Notes
With pricing and flavor on its side, Teteo Tequila is a perfect choice for margaritas. It is very balanced and so has a flavor that is not as sweet as many blancos. I found that a little more (1/8 oz) triple sec or agave nectar helps to balance the drink and bring out the full flavor of Teteo.
About Teteo Tequila
Teteo is available in California and online. It is available in joven (mixto) and reposado varieties, and they are currently working on an añejo.
From Teteo Tequila: “Teteo means ‘of the Gods’ in the ancient language of Nahuatl. The Indian tribes in Pre-Columbian Mexico believed that it was important to be as one with the Gods. To reach this euphoria, they used the agave juices for ceremonial purposes. To continue the tradition, Teteo tequila is made from the juices of only the finest agave produced in the ‘Tequila’ region of Mexico, where this beverage originated.” (Produced and bottled by: NOM 1556, Tequila 3 Reales de Jalisco, S.A. de C.V.)
