Tequila Capaz brings premium to the people

Tequila Capaz Blanco (Silver)
Tequila Capaz Blanco (Silver)

Tequila Capaz does not come in a fancy bottle, or with a fancy price tag. It is a 100% blue agave tequila that is available in a 1 liter bottle as a blanco or añejo.

Like its name suggests ("capaz" translates to "capable/proficient"), Tequila Capaz is a versatile tequila that works well as a shooter, sipper, and it holds up well in a cocktail.

Tequila Capaz Blanco (Silver) Tasting Notes

The Capaz Blanco, which won a silver medal at the 2009 Spirits of Mexico, is crystal clear with a medium body. The tears run quickly down the glass. It has a (somewhat unusual) musty agave scent that's accented by pear and banana, with just a hint of sweet cream. The creaminess in the nose is matched when it's sipped, with a buttery agave taste that is quite strong, but settles nicely into a sweet grassy - almost earthy - flavor. It has a medium finish with a mild buttery aftertaste that is accented by a hint of mint.

Tequila Capaz Añejo Tasting Notes

The Capaz Añejo, which won a gold medal 2009 Spirits of Mexico, shares the medium body of its blanco cousin, but boasts a deep golden hue and thicker tears. There is a lively scent of sweet agave on the nose that's grounded with notes of earth, leather, and just a hint of vanilla. The añejo is a solid sipper that starts out sweet and oaky, reflecting the two years it rests in the barrel, and then picks up flavors of hazelnut and butter as it culminates into a satisfying, medium length finish that leaves a nice, mild aftertaste of minty vanilla.

Cocktail Mixing Notes

Capaz boasts a strong flavor, and it shines through other mixers in a cocktail. You will want to be careful to choose ingredients that compliment the buttery flavor inherent in the blanco. For example, do not make a Capaz Blanco margarita using agave nectar. The nectar compounds the creamy sweetness, making your cocktail too sweet. Instead, I recommend a traditional margarita recipe when using the blanco - you will be glad you did! Interestingly, the añejo is great in the agave nectar margarita.
