It's finally here, The long awaited tennis season officially gets underway with tryouts and practice in full swing this week.

For many seniors, this will be the last go around at playing on the team, and for freshman and sophomores an opportunity to shine.

Mountain View High School Womens Head Coach, Stan Taylor was asked a few questions about the upcoming season." We are extremely excited about the prospects for the upcoming season and the future for varsity tennis at Mountain View High School", Coach Taylor said.

One very commendable interesting stance that Coach Taylor has adopted this year is the implementation of a "No-Cut" policy. Coach stated that," Based on our initial year that the best interests of the students at the Mountain View high school community will be served by implementing a no cut policy."

With Mountain View boys and girls sharing 9 courts, this creates a real space management dilemma. With roughly 25 girls from the high school and close to a dozen freshman from nearby Poston and Stapley the competition for the varsity spots will be fierce.

Many of the girls have a tournament background, some girls have spent the summer training with Assistant Head Coach Kim Roberts at Mountain View or with the Mesa Tennis Academy.

When asked about the future in Mesa tennis Coach Taylor was quick to add," I am pleased to see that the interest level around Mesa has greatly increased. We are very appreciative for the open door policy to develop tennis programs that was offered by Stapley Junior High School and subsequently at Mountain View."

The fact that there are close to 40 girls at tryouts willing and hungry to compete for a spot on the team is extremely impressive. There is no question that Mesa Tennis is on the rise, justified by the fact some players have put in the necessary time during the off season to prepare for the upcoming season.

The future looks solid for Mesa Tennis.
