This has been a tough year for Ana Ivanovic. Ana is 4-4 this year and has earned close to $37,000 dollars. Not really a huge income although it definitely goes hand in hand with they way her season has gone.
Coming to the BNP Paribas Open, she has to be thinking that something has got to give. She needs to win and she needs to win bad to gain some rhythm going into the rest of the season. You get out of it what you put into it and results reflect that.
There are only a certain amount of times players can use the excuse " Well, I played well today, but just didn't have it all together." This is the closest tournament outside of the Grand Slams that mirrors a Grand Slam feel. Two weeks of competition with the men and women together at the venue.
Walking around the BNP Paribas on Monday, fans were able to get a glimpse of the Old Ana. Hitting winners, left and right, smiling seemed to be enjoying herself.
She was serving well, returning well, and moving her feet. Most of the time, those are good signs for a player trying to reagin confidence in her game.
Ana shouldn't panic and if she does what she has to do and truly puts the effort in that needs to be done to get back in the top 10 than Ana and her team know what they need to do.
She is still young and and has time to get it worked out. The desire to win and compete at the top level again requires an athlete to perform practice at a top level.
Like many of the players here in Indian Wells this week, they want a great showing to roll that momentum into the summer season. Players want their games and shots to be clicking and intact before heading down the rest of the season.
No one knows what is going through her head at the moment and no one can question her desire except Ana herself. She still has plenty of fans and support.
Ana will take on Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia, in her first round at the BNP.Don't count Ana out just yet, she has plenty of magic left in her.
