Dream big Phoenix tennis

2009 US OPEN Winner Juan Martin Del Potro

The US Open has created a huge opportunity for one lucky male and female player to earn a wildcard into the US Open Qualifying tournament. The USTA has launched the first ever US Open National Playoffs in a desire to reach out to tennis communities all throughout the United States. Anything is possible, ask Kim Clijsters. Kim re-entered the tour and won the US Open last year.

This will give a chance for a player fourteen years and older, who meets the eligibility requirements, to compete against other hopefuls beginning with sectional championships. The schedule is out, click here for full schedule, and so far all sections have organized and finalized dates and venues to hold the sectionals except for the Florida and Hawaii Pacific sections.

Anyone who has been involved in tennis here in Arizona over the last twenty years knows that there are plenty of great players here in the valley who could be very competitive and go far in the National Playoffs. For some, retiring from tennis brought closure and many what ifs, and others, are itching to get out and compete after watching Justine Henin and Kim Clijsters making come backs with much success.

Good luck to all those players in the Valley of the Sun who choose to enter.
