--- The Monta Vista High School girls team won the Northern California regional tennis championships last month at Diamond Hills Sports Club and Spa in Oakley, Calif. Monta Vista, which is located in Cupertino, defeated Saratoga High School 4-3 in the finals to win the title for the fourth time in the 11 years that the event has been contested.
--- A team from the Santa Clara Golf and Tennis Club won the USTA League 8.0 national mixed doubles title last month in Tucson, Ariz. The Santa Clara team first won its round-robin flight, then defeated a team from Wichita, Kansas, 2-1 in the semifinals before knocking off a squad from Montville, N.J., 2-1 in the finals. The Santa Clara team did not win its district championship, but was one of three second-place teams that were awarded wild card entries into the NorCal sectional event, which Santa Clara won to advance to the nationals.
---- UC Berkeley won the USTA Northern California Campus Championships last month at Stanford and will be one of three teams to advance to the national Campus Championships in Surprise, Arizona, in April. Cal defeated UC Davis 26-20 in the finals to win the NorCal event for the fourth straight year. UC Davis and Stanford will also advance to the national event.
