Just one day after the news became public concerning quarterback Vince Young"s citation for assault outside a Dallas night club the Titans are today dealing with the suspension of linebacker Gerald McRath for violating the NFL's policy on performance enhancing substances.
Jeff Fisher confirmed yesterday that the four game suspension begins on Sept. 4 with McRath being eligible to return to the active roster on Oct. 4 following the Oct. 3 game against the Denver Broncos. McRath will be eligible to take part in training camp practices and preseason games.
McRath had been working with the first team defense through OTA's and was being counted on as one of the possible replacements for David Thornton who is continuing rehab from shoulder surgery and Keith Bulluck who is also recovering from season ending knee surgery and is still an unsigned free agent.
Will Witherspoon who was signed as a free agent in the off season has been working at one outside linebacker position and with the McRath suspension the Titans must now look to Jamie Winborn, Stanford Keglar, Pago Togafau, Colin Allred and rookie Rennie Curran, the remaining linebackers on the roster to replace McRath.
