Pearl's deluxe with cheese
You know, one of the great things about San Francisco is the little gems of restaurants that are tucked into this corner or that all over the city.
Pearl's Deluxe Burger, specializing in Niman Ranch organic beef, plus buffalo and Kobe beef for an extra charge, is one of the city's little gems. (Pun intended.) This tiny space at 708 Post with only a few seats is not a deterrent for the determined eater—take it to go and do it often.
The basic deluxe burger ($5.99 and $6.49 with cheese) is a half pound beef burger on a sesame seed bun with curly leaf lettuce, mayo, onion and tomato. For smaller appetites, they also do a quarter pound mini pearl ($4.29 and $4.79). The concept isn't new, but what sets Pearl's apart are the very fresh ingredients, organic beef, Kobe beef, buffalo meat and the unique “special” burgers. Try the Phat Bob, a huge, juicy combination of bacon, onions, jack cheese and barbecue sauce, or perhaps their own award winning burger, the Bula, with bacon, swiss and pineapple teriyaki (both $7.69). Fries and onion rings are available but the crinkle cut sweet potato fries are the house specialty. Help yourself to crispy dill spears and if you are still weak with hunger order from dozens of gourmet milkshake flavors such as peanut butter or mud pie with chocolate and brownie bits and seasonal flavors like pumpkin.
