David Archuleta's fans have created a yearly music scholarship, and they are inviting fans to make a donation to support it.
The David Archuleta Music Scholarship is, according to its mission statement, an organization created "to provide musically inclined, outstandingly dedicated high school students with the funds to strive for musical achievements in an instructional establishment of higher education."
The David Archuleta Music Scholarship plans to "reflect David's lifestyle, work ethic and values," which are dedication, aptitude, perseverance, and music.
As explained on The David Archuleta Music Scholarship's website, "Each year a scholarship will be awarded to a senior student(s) from David Archuleta's home town high school — Murray High School in Murray, Utah."
Interested students can submit their scholarship application by April 30, 2010. The David Archuleta Music Scholarship is administered through Murray High School, a non-profit organization.
Fans and music supporters and enthusiasts can make a tax-deductible donation to The David Archuleta Music Scholarship through its website. Any questions can be emailed to info@thedavidarchuletamusicscholarship.org or Amy Knox at Murray High School.

Have the utmost respect for David Archuleta but don't believe that he would ask to support this, have never heard David ask to donate other than to support a charity. This should be done in the local area of where it's being supported. Haven't heard from David himself on this, feel skeptical.
I agree with Melina. Not that David would be against a scholarship, but I believe this is fan driven. Some of David's diehard fans wanted to do this in his honor. Very admirable, but again, not David's idea, and I don't think he is very involved in this. IMO. Having said that though, I did donate because I think it's a great opportunity for a gifted music student from Murray High.

This scholarship is fan driven, however David is aware of it and has given his approval. Music education is something that is important to those of us who established this...so is doing something to honor David. It will be an exciting thing to be able to present this to 1 or more deserving students from David's own High School. "David Archuleta invites fans to make a donation to music education" statement under David's photo is not correct. David never asked anybody to donate money. This is fan driven, fan organized initiative to honor David.
I would like to set everyone's minds at ease about The David Archuleta Music Scholarship. A group of David's fans conceived this idea as a Christmas and Birthday gift for David. We worked many months with Murray High School to make sure this was a possibility.
We contacted David and his management through the proper channels to make sure that we had their permission to go forward.
It took some time to get that permission, but it was granted.
We received permission to use his name in the Scholarship at Murray High. This scholarship will not only "gift" young music student(s) as they pursue their dream, it will be a way to "give back" to David by honoring him with a scholarship in his name!!
Neither the Murray High nor David are doing the fund raising. However, both the school and David do know about this project, and are very supportive of our efforts!! David is very humbled by the fact that his fans would do something like this in his name.
The article is misleading, as it says that Murray High is asking
fans to donate. Murray High will accept the funds from the fund drive, however, they are not doing anything to promote this effort. This is fan inspired, fan driven, and fan sustained.
However, it has been sanctioned by both Murray High and David Archuleta. Fans who donate are given the option to have their name written in a journal that will be given to David to celebrate the first year of: The David Archuleta Music Scholarship...a gift from his fans!!!

David has not asked his fans to contribute to this effort. He has, however, given his permission to use his name for this effort to help future aspiring music students!!
This is a gift to David...and when you give a gift to someone you don't expect them to have to do something for it. I can tell you that David approved of the project but has not been asked to speak out about it as we know he is very busy with working on his album. This is a way for fans to come together to honor David, music, and to help a high school student to pursue their musical dreams.

I am donating because David is a humanitarian who supports many worthy causes. This scholarship is driven by his fans to help music education, which is not well supported in the schools. David Archuleta fans are awesome!
