Anybody that tuned into last nght's 2009 Video Music Awards for the unexpected, crazy or wow moments, then they didn't disappoint. The 2009 VMAs were probably the most dramatic ever.
The highlights and lowlights of the night:
1. The biggest moment that everyone has been talking about was, of course, Kanye West being a jerk. Very early in the night, the first award, for Best Female Video was won by Taylor Swift. Taylor, a sweet 19 year old, had barely began her speech when Kanye stepped out on stage, grabbed her microphone and yelled "Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time" twice. Taylor looked shocked, the audience booed and she didn't get to finish her speech. See the video:
2. Beyonce was one classy lady - Approximately two hours later, the final award of the show for best music video went to Beyonce. She said that she knew how exciting winning her first award was (when she was 17 with Destiny's Child) and then she called out Taylor Swift to use her time to give her speech. It was a wonderful moment between the two of them and the audience loved them both.
3. Madonna - She opened the VMAs with a very emotional and heartfelt tribute to Michael Jackson. She spoke of her relationship with him and the person she knew. She compared losing her mother as a child to Michael's losing his childhood, and said that he had it much worse. It was very moving.
4. Lady GaGa's costumes - Whether you liked them or not, they added additional interest to the VMAs. Everytime the cameras cut to her and we saw another strange mask or get-up it was fun.
5. New Moon Trailer - A highlight for many, probably a lowlight for many others. However, it was eagerly awaited and from reading Twitter afterward, many people were ready to buy tickets after watching it. But what was up with Kristen Stewart's hair when she came out to introduce the clip with Rob Pattinson and Taylor Lautner? Not a good look for her.
6. Excellent performance by Green Day, Muse, Jay-Z and Taylor Swift in a subway car.
With all of the above going on last night, the actual awards seemed to take a back seat to the events that occurred. Here's to next years Video Music Awards. Can they top this one for drama?

Kanye is very talented but he seriously needs to get over himself!!! He is not the all knowing music authority and he should learn to voice his objections in the right forum. I feel terrible for Taylor Swift and very happy that Beyonce redeemed the evening with her classy ways.
